Two Craft Shows Next Weekend!

SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 2008

I can't believe I have TWO craft shows next weekend.  I'm starting to freak out a little.  I have so much work to do and I'm working full-time, so I can't do anything all day.  Since there's so little to do at my job, I've thought about what it would be like if I could plug in my glue gun and craft at my desk.  I don't think it would go over so big.  At least I get to read.  I think crafting would be pushing it a little!

So, let me give you information about the first event, which is Saturday, March 29th:

Shop! Stroll! Drink! Eat! Chat! Enjoy!

South Park's Spring Walkabout provides pedestrians great opportunities to explore the great shops, enjoy lively entertainment and special treats from local South Park Businesses.

South Park, one of San Diego's oldest neighborhoods, is also one of San Diego's newest cool neighborhoods.  Great food, art, music, unique gifts, and interesting services provide a flavor to the neighborhood that is unlike any other.  Located just east of Balboa Park, South Park is known for its beautifully restored craftsman homes, which are showcased in the annual Old House Fair in June.

I will be selling crafts from 3:00pm - 8:00pm at THE WHISTLE STOP BAR with a bunch of other crafty divas!

The second event is Sunday, March 30th:
Wanted Sign

So, I've been working nights and weekends and I've really accomplished a lot.  First, I want to show you the metal file box, which I transformed into the footed Victorian File Box.  I love it so much, I hate to sell it!
Purchased for $2 at the SALVATION ARMY THRIFT SHOP, you can see that this box was nothing you'd want to keep in your home (unless it was buried in a closet, where it wouldn't really serve any function or purpose).  I believe in order for things to serve you well, they have to be handy -- which is why decorative, beautiful storage is SO important!
Metal File Box -- Before
It was scratched, dented and chipped.  It had obviously been used and abused, and was ready to be "reborn!"

Now, it's ready to hold your bills, or other important papers, and you can enjoy keeping it close at hand!
Victorian File Box
I wanted the inside to be as lovely as the outside, so you are happy to open it each time you need to!

Next, I took a plain, plastic tall tissue box (which I also purchased at THE SALVATION ARMY THRIFT SHOP for 50 cents).  I was going to decoupage it, because I have done that before, but I decided to bejewel it instead.  It was the most challenging project I've ever done, but I think it came out great!

Now, it's ready for any room in the house -- a fabulous boudoir, bathroom, or even the living room!  This piece is dressed up to go ANYWHERE!
Bejeweled Tissue Box
The corners and edges were really hard to work with, but I did it!

Each side has something to offer: a faux cameo, a sparkly crystal, faux pearls, and rhinestones.

I think this would look so beautiful in someone's home that you'd be happy every time you blow your nose!

I had found a bag of small seashells for $2 and a small wood-framed mirror for $1 at MICHAEL'S.  First, I painted the frame, because I didn't like the naked wood, and I also added faux pearls.  Here's the result:

I found a small file box I had decorated years ago.  I used to keep postcards in there, but it could also hold photos.  I think it was originally intended for file cards, because it has a moveable piece inside so that however many cards or photos are in there, they will not fall down.  I decided to add some feet (I just think it dresses everything up to put it off the table or floor) and added some faux pearls to the yellow legs.

Lastly, I did something which made Eric's eyebrows go WAY up!  I had been walking one day on Clairemont Drive and saw a big pine cone.  I carried it home and put it outside on the balcony.  I just liked it, because it was so big.  It sat outside for a few months, in the rain, and then I looked at it the other day and thought it would look so nice if I bejeweled it.  I decided to use all faux pearls and thought it would be sweet on a shelf.  It combines nature and glitz and what could be better than that?

So, you see, I've been a very busy girl!  I still have a lot left to do.  I want to decoupage three pieces today!

Dear Peppy:
Hello, my name is Deborah. I love your blog, your studio, and your work is incredible !
I've made something similar on a much smaller scale, I used to make heart shaped pins (brooches) and embellish them with the jewels, etc.......they were beautiful !
As, for your Pine cones (which are gorgeous), have you ever thought of spray painting them, gold, then adding the pearls ? I wonder what it will look like. Pretty, I'll bet !
I made a Victorian Resin Covered coffee table, onetime, a little while back, if you want, I can send you a pic of it, if you want to see it. Turned out pretty. Maybe you'll get an idea from seeing that ? Take Care.
Love,
