I’ve been behind on my blog for a couple of days now. It was partly because we were having such a great weekend, and I just didn’t have the time, but yesterday was different. Without going into too much detail (I don’t want to be guilty of TMI), let’s just say that I was “under the weather” yesterday from something that should NOT still be getting me down when I’m 50!
We woke up very early (6:30am) and got showered and dressed to drive Jimmy to the airport. We had such a great weekend, and now I was feeling really yucky. We wanted to take Jimmy out to breakfast, and figured the best plan was to drive close to the airport and find a place to eat there. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a Denny’s, IHOP, or Diner to be found. What kind of a place IS this?
We finally found a STARBUCKS and decided that would have to do. We all got breakfast sandwiches and coffee or tea, and sat at a table for a few minutes. We were in a 15-minute parking spot, so we really couldn’t relax very long, but it was long enough for us to finish our sandwiches and we took our coffee with us in the car.
We dropped Jim off at 8:45am, because his flight was at 10:15am and he figured he’d need an hour and a half to get through security. Fortunately, his flight was on time and he had a great flight, although they DID confiscate his shampoo, because it was in a 4 oz. bottle, even though it was half full! That does NOT make sense to me at ALL, because I thought the rule was that you couldn’t carry on more than 3 oz. of liquid, but they didn’t say it has to be in a 3 oz. bottle, do they? I’m confused! Anyway, I now know to be very careful about what we bring to South Carolina next week!
After we dropped Jim off, we headed right home, and I got right back into my pajamas and went to sleep. Eric laid down with me, too, and napped for a while. He got up in the late morning and was doing things around the apartment. I slept until 4:00pm!!!!
Even after I got up, I wasn’t in the mood to do anything. I felt really bad and even Advils didn’t help. I kind of moped around the apartment, opening my mail (which made me slightly happier), and reading emails. I didn’t even have the strength to blog!
The only thing that made me really smile was the gift that had arrived while I was sleeping. A bouquet of giant birthday cookies, from a company called COOKIES BY DESIGN. They were shaped like cakes, presents, balloons, candles and there was a giant cookie in the middle that says, “HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY!”

These buttery shortbread cookies are all iced by hand and they’re SO good. It’s real comfort food, which was JUST what I needed! They were sent by our friends, Susan and Andrew, so I called them up to thank them. Susan and I talked for a while. She told me about her Mom’s surgery, which went well. Her mother is on the mend. That was good news!
I am so behind on my blog and was in such a fog yesterday that I forgot to mention another fabulous gift I received for my birthday. My friends, Geri and Larry, had shipped a box of stuff we had asked them to hold for us when we left NY. When Eric, Jim and I got home Saturday night, the box was waiting for us outside. I didn't open it until Sunday afternoon.
Inside were our things, plus lots of treats for us, and a special gift for me! They sent us some CHILI SPICED MANGO, which is a healthy delicious treat we’ve enjoyed all across the country – thanks to Geri and Larry! They always brought it to me when I worked in the shop and Eric and I have become addicted to it. It’s just the right combination of sweet and spicy and is the perfect snack! They also sent me a big bar of dark chocolate, which I love – and which is really healthy!
Finally, there was a beautifully wrapped box that contained a gorgeous 2008 Day Planner, which has a fabulous red and gold leather boot on the cover. I hadn’t yet purchased a 2008 calendar, and I always need one, so it was perfect! There was also the CUTEST little purple purse, which opened to reveal a regular mirror on one side and a magnified mirror on the other side. Geri and I both LOVE and collect shoes and purses, and this is SO cute. I think I’ll keep it on my vanity, so I can look at it every day!

I put all my cards out on the “buffet” Eric and I made. It makes me so happy to know our friends and family are thinking of us and I enjoy looking at them every day, so thank you!

After a while, I started to feel a little better, and Eric was hungry, so I made us both a big salad and was actually able to eat it! I WAS feeling better! We watched TV, and I worked on my blog for Sunday (even though it was now Monday evening). Finally, we went to bed, but I wasn’t really very tired, since I had slept most of the day!
