My phone rang at 4:00am this morning. It was the shuttle company we had hired to pick us up on Monday morning at 4:45am. I explained to the gentleman that our reservation was for MONDAY not SATURDAY. He apologized and I hung up. I told Eric that this doesn’t bode well for our pick-up on Monday. He asked me what “bode well” meant. I found it hard to explain. We both eventually fell back to sleep. That’s how our day started!
We didn’t wake up again until after 10:30am. Our company was coming at 3:30pm, so we figured we better get out of bed! The first thing I did was call the shuttle company to make sure they knew we were flying on Monday. The guy I spoke to had heard all about my 4:00am “wake up call” and apologized. I said it was fine, but just wanted to be sure they WOULD pick us up on Monday morning! He said not to worry – they would call Sunday night to confirm the time and be there on Monday morning. We hope so!
We ate breakfast, took showers, got dressed and then started vacuuming, dusting and tidying up the apartment. I set our little card table with all the bowls and dishes I would be using for the snacks I had planned. I used a vintage “California” tablecloth that has a map of California and all the cities marked on it. We served grapes, Clementines, hummus and chips, potato chips, a tray of 4 different cheeses and the box of chocolates Bonnie had sent for my birthday. We had saved the chocolates just for today!
Here's a close-up of one section of the mirror made completely of clip-on and screw-on earrings:
I hung up the mirror I made yesterday. I’m still not sure it’s done, but the only way to tell is to hang it up. That’s what I used to do in the shop, too. I’d finish a mirror and hang it up, because you really can’t tell when it’s laying on a table. I think there are a few little spots I can add to, so I will probably do a little more work on it while it’s hanging up. To anyone else it might seem done, but I told Eric, “It’s not done until I say it's done!”

Audrey, Bonnie, Michael and Nicole arrived right on time at 3:30pm. Audrey had an easy 40-minute flight from Las Vegas. She was happy, because the weather here is milder than it is in Las Vegas. She said it’s been freezing there!

We gave them all the tour of the apartment and I was so happy that they liked everything and commented on how much we had done in just a month. Bonnie, Audrey and Nicole loved the decoupaged tray I made for our friends for New Year’s Eve, and they loved the jewelry mosaic mirror, too. I told Bonnie and Nicole I would definitely teach them how to decoupage, because it’s fun and easy!
We had some snacks, talked and then we asked if anyone wanted to try the massage chair. Audrey volunteered. She really loved it. It IS fantastic! Nicole was next and she seemed to like it too. She is so cute. She kept giggling and saying it tickled!
We left the apartment and drove to Bonnie’s mother’s restaurant – NYPD PIZZA. Michael and Bonnie treated us all to pizza and calzones. Their food is really good!
It was only 6:30pm when we left and after a stop at STARBUCKS and the gas station to fill up, we were home by 7:00pm. I told Eric I thought it was great that it felt so much later, but it was still early, because we should go to bed early tonight (like 9:00pm) and wake up early tomorrow. Then, we’ll be tired enough to go to bed early tomorrow night, since we have to wake up at 3:30am to be picked up at 4:45am and make our flight at 6:15am. It’s VERY early!
We could sleep on the plane, but by the time we get settled we’ll be in Houston. Maybe we’ll have time to sleep on the second flight from Houston to South Carolina.
My friend, Geri, called tonight. She and Larry just had friends visiting from Australia and showed them a really great time. Geri and Larry are the kindest, most generous couple. They will go to the ends of the earth for their friends, and I’m sure they did everything they could to make sure their friends’ vacation was perfection!
Tomorrow is all about packing for our trip. I am very nervous, because I keep hearing how strict the airport security is with your baggage. You have to have the right size bottles for your liquids, and they have to be in the right size baggie (1 quart). I’m going to the airport’s website, so I can read up about all the restrictions. I REALLY don’t want to deal with all this, so I have to make sure we are following all the rules!
