I Remembered to Blog!

I woke up early today, at least earlier than usual – 8:00am.  The first thing I thought of was the fact that I forgot to blog yesterday!  It was so strange.  So, I got up, and I wrote my blog for yesterday.

Then Eric got up and we did things around the apartment.  He made his favorite breakfast – grits!  He’s always loved grits, and enjoyed a lot of the REAL stuff when we were on the road.  There’s lots of great grits to be had in the south!  He makes real grits (they’re not instant), but they’re still not as good as the stuff they serve with biscuits and gravy!  I’m not much into grits myself.  I had SPECIAL K Chocolately Delight Cereal!

Eric and I have made plans to go to South Carolina for the week between the holidays.  We’re leaving very early on Christmas Eve day and coming back very early on New Year’s Eve day.  We don’t have any family here to spend the holidays with, so why not go away?  This time, we're flying!

Eric wants to check out the mountain biking in South Carolina, so I printed out a lot of information about bike shops, trails, organizations and clubs.  He made a few phone calls and found out about a place to rent a bike while we’re there, so he can go riding.  I’m anxious to see what the weather is like in South Carolina at the end of December.  It’s supposed to be pretty mild there, so I should be okay.  I think it will be good for us go, because Eric isn’t having much fun here, and a week of riding should lift his spirits.

We’re going to COLUMBIA, which is the capitol of South Carolina.  It’s right in the middle, so it’s not close to the beaches (or the hurricanes).  It’s also milder in the middle than it is on the coasts.  It’s a pretty big city, with lots of theater, so I’m hoping to catch a show or two while Eric’s out riding!

This afternoon we went out for a bicycle ride.  Eric wasn’t too enthusiastic, but it was a gorgeous day, and we had nothing better to do!  We rode down Clairemont Drive a couple of miles and then turned around and came back.  It was pretty easy riding – no big hills – and Eric was showing me how to “spin” which means peddling really fast in an easy gear, which he says burns more calories than peddling slower in a harder gear (which makes you work harder, but can actually hurt your knees!).  All during the ride he trains me, helping me to be a better rider, and keeping me safe!  He’s the best.

Harry & DavidWhen we arrived back there was a package in our door -- a big box of fruit and other treats from HARRY AND DAVID, sent by our friends, Julie and Ken.  It was such a great surprise and Eric and I immediately opened it and had a great “snack lunch.”  There were pears and apples, cheese, sausage, nuts, chocolates and "Moose Munch" popcorn.  I called Julie, to thank her, and we had a great talk.  I really miss all my girlfriends.

Then my niece, April, called.  I really miss my girls, too (all my nieces).  I am very close with them and enjoyed being with them when we lived in NY.  We’d go out to eat and they’d fill me in on what was going on in their lives.  They’re all beautiful, sweet girls.  April said she’s going to try to come for a visit in January, maybe with her sister, Jessica.  It would be so great to see them!

KraftAfter my phone calls, I relaxed for a while and then did a little more unpacking.  Then, I made dinner – KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese.  I also made a turkey/Swiss wrap for Eric, to go with the macaroni.  I wasn’t that hungry, since we had snacked just 3 hours before.  We had a little light ice cream for dessert and I was ready to blog!

I typed for a while, watched some TV and then my sister, Audrey, called.  She fractured a bone in her foot and has to wear one of those boots for a few weeks.  My poor darling.  She’s very active, so this is really hard on her.  I hope she’s MUCH better REAL soon.  She’s got a trip planned to the Galapagos Islands in February, so she’s got to get that foot healed and in perfect condition, so she can hike!

After I hung up with Audrey, my friend, Geri, called.  She and her husband, Larry, were away on their “Amazonian Adventure” and just got back a few days ago.  I didn’t really have a chance to talk to her in weeks.  We were on the phone for almost an hour, talking about all that’s going on here with us, and with her and Larry in NY.  Today was definitely a day for telephone talking – Julie, April, Audrey and Geri!  Wow!

Tomorrow Cable Guy #3 is coming, and we are hoping that everything will be hooked up and ready for viewing!  It’s been great having the TV in the bedroom, but I need my DVR!!
