Eric and Peppy Go Bicycling (and Walking)!

We both woke up a little late this morning, then hung around watching TV.  There was a marathon of AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL on and since I haven’t seen any of this season, I was hooked!  Of course Eric had no interest in that, so he went into the living room and watched TV there.

Then, around 1:00pm, Eric decided we should go for a bicycle ride and even though it really was the last thing I wanted to do, I agreed.  After all, if he’s willing to go bicycling, how can I say no?  I mean, we all know I need the exercise, and getting out in the sunshine is good for everybody.  So, even though I had plans to go food shopping, do laundry, get a pedicure and visit CIRCUIT CITY again (to get help programming the camera), we went for a ride.

Instead of me driving the car down to the parking lot and Eric meeting me there, Eric agreed that we could walk the bikes down the hill (about ½ mile) to the bay.  It’s really dangerous to ride in the street, because it’s the entrance to I-5 and the drivers are CRAZY!  So, we walked on the sidewalk and when we got to the park we got on the bicycles and rode around.  We probably went about 2 miles.  It was a gorgeous day and the park was packed with people.  Lots of people.  Flying kites, putting boats in the water, fishing, and having picnics.  Lots of kids, too.  It made riding a little tricky and I used my bell a lot to warn people that we were coming!   After almost an hour Eric said he thought we should stop, because we still had to walk back up the hill.  I had really pushed myself when we were riding, so I felt like I got some exercise.

We started walking up the hill – when I say hill, I mean HILL.  This hill is so huge and so long and it’s ALL UP HILL!  I told Eric I’d like to try riding a little, on the sidewalk, and he agreed, so I got on the bike.  Everything was okay, but it started to get so steep and I kept pushing myself.  You always hear that you’re supposed to push your muscles to exhaustion and that’s the way to build muscle, so I figured I’d keep pushing!  The next thing you know, I was so out of breath I thought I was having an asthma attack.  I got off the bike and tried to catch my breath, but I couldn’t.  I felt sick.  I wanted to sit down, but we were on the side of the road and there really wasn’t anyplace.  The sidewalk is very narrow and there are no houses or anything.

Eric came up behind me and gave me some water.  I sat down on the ground for a minute and my breathing finally started to return to normal.  I was really scared for a minute there.  It was SO ridiculous.  I am so out of shape that one big exertion and I thought I was going to die!  The thing was, it wasn't my muscles that were giving out.  I actually could have ridden further.  It was my lungs!  I actually started thinking Eric would have to take me to the emergency room, because I was having an asthma attack!  Thank goodness I got my breath back and we continued up the hill.  He wanted to walk both bikes, but I told him that leaning on the bike and rolling it wasn’t hard, it felt like it was helping.

When we got back to the apartment we opened all the windows, because it felt like it was 100 degrees in the apartment.   Eric immediately laid down to take a nap, but I didn’t even want to lie down, because I was so sweaty.  My face was SO red (I always get red-in-the-face when I exercise – it’s VERY attractive!) and the back of my neck was soaked.  I wanted to jump in the shower, but (like the episode of Seinfeld with George), I knew it wouldn’t “take.”  So, I just sat in bed and watched more AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL until I cooled down.  The cross ventilation in the apartment is really great, because after a few minutes I was actually cold!  I closed the front door.  Then I did lie down and took a nap, too.

Eric got up at 5:30pm to watch the All-Star Basketball Game and I just stayed in bed for another half hour.  Then, I took a shower, made us both NUTRISYSTEM flat bread pizzas and a nice salad.  We had the rest of the gelato for dessert – Eric had most of it and I had a small scoop.  It’s SO SO SO good!

After dinner I finished my “clock tray.”  I had finished the front, but wanted to finish the back.  It’s done now and I just need to varnish it, which I will do tomorrow, if I have time!

Then I went back inside and watched more ANTM (I know I don’t have to spell it out AGAIN).   I really enjoy that show.  You learn so much about modeling, and seeing these girls with no makeup and then how they look on camera is so amazing.  I love the different challenges and photo shoots.  It’s all very glamorous!

After that, Eric went into the bedroom to watch TV and I stayed out here, watching THE PRINCESS DIARIES, which is such a cute movie.  I love Ann Hathaway.  She is fantastic in THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, and she’s adorable in this one, too.

Tomorrow I’m going to try to get done all the stuff I didn’t do today: laundry, food shopping, 99 cent store (for more small mirrors), CIRCUIT CITY (for help with the camera), and a pedicure.  Think I can fit all that into one day?  We’ll see!
