As the ROLLING STONES sang in 1969:
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, well you might find
You get what you need
I was thinking about our situation today, and I don’t know why, but those lyrics came to mind. What I was thinking was that I was going to have to compromise when we move to North Carolina. The weather this time of year is about 20 degrees higher than NYC, but about 20 degrees lower than San Diego! So, it’s not as warm as I’d like, but not as cold as I hate!
I feel I won't have everything I want in North Carolina, but I will have everything I need -- mainly a happy Eric.
Today the weather in San Diego was perfection. The sun was strong and there was just the slightest breeze. It felt SO good. It’s supposed to be that way all week. I enjoy and treasure every single day here. I feel so blessed to have spent this winter here. To have known what it was like to be warm and comfortable in January and February! I may only have been here for one winter, but what a winter it was!
My boss was in work today, so the day was much busier, although I still managed to read about 100 pages of my book! At one point I had nothing to do in the morning and decided if he didn’t give me anything I was just going to read my book. He saw me a couple of times and didn’t say anything, so I figure he doesn’t mind. Every time he gave me something to do I did it immediately and gave it back to him right away, so he knows I’m working when there’s work to do. I guess he figures if he has nothing for me, I can do what I want!
He was actually in a good mood today. He joked around a little, which really amazed me, and thanked me a lot for the stuff I did. Don’t know what that’s about, but it was nice.
When I got home I did a lot of work on my crafts blog (which you can access from my website – www.peppysdream.com. I put up pictures of my latest creation, which I made last night. It’s getting complicated – having two blogs, so sometimes I’m just going to put the pictures of my work on there. I just don’t have the time or energy to do the same work in two places!
Eric rode today, but of course he complained to me how lame it was and how he didn’t really enjoy it. I suggested to him that he start working on the RV, so that it’s all ready for when we leave here. Remember we had toilet and refrigerator problems? Well, they’re still there, and now there’s probably even more wrong with it, since it’s been sitting for three months! He thought it was a good idea and he’ll start all the maintenance and repairs. I think that’s a good job to keep him busy, and then when we get out of here, it will be better than last time. It really wasn’t a big deal, but it would be nice to have everything working, wouldn’t it?
I made us NUTRISYSTEM entrées for dinner and some of my latest batch of soup, which came out GREAT! I watched GIRLICIOUS (okay, it’s totally trashy, but I love it) and then Eric and I watched AMERICAN IDOL (boys’ night).
Tomorrow Eric has a dentist appointment to have a crown put in. He’s been walking around for a few weeks with a temporary and now he’s getting the permanent. I still have to find a dentist that will sedate me for my cleaning. I know, I’m a baby, but it hurts!
Tomorrow, and the rest of the week, should be busy, since my boss will be in for the rest of the week. Then, he’s off to Las Vegas and will be out next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, so I guess that’s when I’ll finish my book. I’ve already read over 350 pages! It’s really good and I’m really involved now, thinking about the characters and wanting to get back to them whenever I can. I purposely don’t bring the book home, because I’d get absolutely nothing done and would be reading all night. I told Eric when I finish the book I want him to read it, because I think he’d really love it.
Isn’t reading the greatest gift ever? To be able to be transported to another time, another place and get a peek into someone else’s life – and you can do it at your own pace, in your own time, wherever you are. It’s such a great escape. It’s better than any TV show or movie, don’t you think? My mother gave us our great love of reading – me and my sisters. She would take us to the library every week and we'd get out new books and devour them. Our gifts always included books and we always loved to read. My friend Susan told me about that new electronic book – the AMAZON Kindle. It sounds fantastic to me. I’ll have to get me one, one of these days!
