A Great Day, But No Sales!

Craft About

I woke up at 7:30am, which was much too early, considering I went to bed at 1:00pm.  So, I just made myself fall back to sleep.  Every time I thought about anything (like the sale today, and everything I needed to do today), I tried to make my mind blank.  I eventually fell back to sleep and woke up again at 10:30am.  Eric woke up, too.  I made him breakfast – scrambled egg whites with a wedge of avocado on the slice, and a slice of toast.  I had a NUTRISYSTEM bar.

We relaxed and watched an episode of PSYCH, and then I went into the shower and got dressed.  Eric showered and got dressed, too.  Then, he helped me pack up the car and we left at 2:00pm.  First, I deposited my check in Citibank, and then we went to STARBUCKS where I got a decaf venti Frappucino.  We got to the WHISTLE STOP BAR at around 3:00pm and Eric helped me unload everything, then left.  I waited for the woman in charge of the event to show up and a few other girls were there to set up, too.  When she came she told us where our tables should go.  I thought there would be lots of vendors, but there were just 7 inside and 5 outside.

We were all set up and ready to go by 3:30pm, but I was a little disappointed.  The place was pretty dark and there were no windows in the area where we were.  There were some spotlights around, but none of them were shining on my table!  Thank goodness Svea, from the CRAFT MAFIA had little battery-operated lights and she gave me one for my table.  It was perfect, because it made all the jewelry sparkle, but my decoupaged items were in shadow and you could hardly see them!

It didn’t really matter much, because no one even walked into our area until after 6:30pm!  We were just sitting around, talking, eating, and drinking.  It was really fun and I got to know some of the other vendors, but we were all disappointed by the lack of foot traffic.  Someone mentioned that the WALKABOUT really didn’t begin until 6:00pm, so we all wondered why we set up at 3:30pm, but it was too late to worry about it.

At around 7:00pm a lot of people started coming into the bar, but it seemed they were there to drink, or to meet their friends.  Hardly anybody came over to our area.  I noticed a few of the girls sold something, but most didn’t sell a thing – including me!  A few women came by and looked, and a few touched, but the music and talking was so loud, you could hardly communicate with customers.  Also, it was so dark in there that my stuff really wasn’t shown to its best advantage.  I was disappointed, but kept telling myself that this was just the “dress rehearsal” and tomorrow was the “big event.”

I just hope that tomorrow’s crowd is more into shopping, and less into drinking!

At 8:00pm, Eric came to pick me up.  I was almost completely packed and he brought the car around and I put everything in the back.  We found a spot right down the block, and Eric was hungry and I was starving, so we went across the street to a little Mexican restaurant, had a fast dinner, and then walked down the block to THE DAILY SCOOP, a fabulous home-made ice cream shop.  I had taken Jessica and April there when we visited South Park while they were on vacation here.

The woman who owns the place remembered me – after 10 weeks – and asked us how we were doing.  She asked how life in Clairemont was going, and I couldn’t believe that she even remembered where I lived!  Eric got a Brownie Sundae and I got a small scoop of Chocolate Peanut Butter (what else) and we drove home.

I was going to leave everything in the car, but Eric was afraid to do that, so we brought everything upstairs.  I only have a few things to pack for tomorrow, but I’m too tired to do it tonight, so I’ll do it tomorrow morning.  I have to be in North Park at 10:45am, so it’s a much earlier day!

I am glad that I did this event today.  It didn’t cost anything, I made some new acquaintances, and did some networking.  I just wish I had sold something!  I will be putting a lot of pictures on my CRAFTS BLOG, but I’m just too tired to do it tonight, so I’ll let you know on this blog, when I’ve put the entry on the other blog!  This is confusing, eh?
