There’s probably no holiday all year that has less meaning for me than St. Patrick’s Day. I’m not Irish and I don’t really drink, yet I AM a GREENberg, so that should count for something, right?
I used to have a little green plastic leprechaun hat, with an elastic chin strap that I would wear all day on St. Patrick’s Day when I worked at PwC. I reveled in being silly and it was much appreciated!
The highlight of my St. Patrick's Day was an e-card my friend Marybeth sent. It was vintage-looking and had different Irish postcard images that were so pretty. Mary is a lovely Irish girl I've known for almost 30 years. We worked together for many, many years and Mary always made St. Patrick's Day great. She would bring her famous Irish Sodabread to work and everyone would be happy. She's an amazing baker and you couldn't help but get in the spirit when you were with Mary!
I would have worn green to work today, but I wore a dress on Friday that had green in it, and even wore green suede shoes. I just wasn’t planning ahead and had nothing else green to wear today, so I just wore red and black!
When we lived in NY and worked in Manhattan the parade was always something to see, and people would be walking around with green bagels, green beer and anything else they could make green-for-a-day. In 1982, when Eric and I worked right off Fifth Avenue, we watched the parade together, with a bunch of our friends. THAT was festive.
Today, the only way I knew it was St. Patrick’s Day was from the internet and the few people who were wearing green in the office. It just doesn’t mean that much in San Diego, but it’s no big deal since – as I started off saying – it doesn’t have much meaning for me anyway!
I had a pretty good day at work, except my boss was in a really bad mood and was pretty nasty. I really have to hold my tongue, because I’d love to really let him have it, but then maybe he wouldn’t pay me to read, which I’m really enjoying!
Today I started a new novel – THE MEMORY KEEPER’S DAUGHTER, by Kim Edwards, which is really good. I went online to read more about the author and found out they’re currently filming a movie, which will be released this fall. Should be a good one!
When I got home, I just changed quickly because I had an acupuncture appointment. Eric had just gotten home from a nice, long ride. He was just going in the shower when I got left. I promised him I would bring him home some gelato, since Gelato Vero is right across the street from Holistic Health Specialists, where I get my treatments.
I got stuck with pins and, as usual, enjoyed my time with Carl. He is so pleasant and positive and I really think he is helping me. Sometimes my foot hurts, but sometimes I realize it doesn’t hurt at all, and I'm so happy. I’m so used to the pain that I hardly notice it anymore, but sometimes when it DOESN’T hurt, I realize and I’m pleasantly surprised!
Afterwards, I had to drive around for 15 minutes and couldn’t find a spot anywhere (it’s a very popular area with about 5 great restaurants on one block), so I parked illegally outside, ran in and told the kid what I wanted, ran back out and stood by my car, then ran in and practically threw the money at him and grabbed the gelato. It all worked out!
When I got home I made us tamales (there’s just one left for Eric to have tomorrow – boo hoo) and then we watched DANCING WITH THE STARS. The guys danced tonight and Eric and I really enjoyed it. They have a very diverse group of stars this year. Check it out!
After DWTS I made myself a salad for lunch tomorrow and then worked on the computer. Then I got ready for bed and watched MEDIUM. I just love that show!
I didn’t get to do any crafting today, but Eric helped me out by varnishing my clock vase (I had done a few coats, but wanted more) and my newest project – a frame I completely covered with vintage keys! It’s a medium I haven’t worked with before and I really enjoyed it, although it was really challenging. I’d love to hear what you think! I also want to put the word out that if you have any old keys hanging out in your junk drawer, please send them to me, so I can make something fabulous out of them. I'd really appreciate it! It took me YEARS to collect this many!
This picture was taken "pre varnish." Now, it's really shiny and glossy, and Eric felt the varnish would help the keys stick better, so none will fall off!
Tomorrow I have to do a LOT of work, because Wednesday I’m having dinner with my friend Robyn, so I won’t get any crafting done. It will be nice to go out with a girlfriend, because I really don’t have any friends here that I socialize with. I’m getting to know the CRAFT MAFIA, and they’re all great girls, and there are some really nice girls at work, but I don’t really try to make friends, because I know we’re not staying, so what’s the use? I really enjoy Eric’s company, so it’s not like I’m lonely. I just wish all our friends were close by, so we could enjoy being with the ones we love!

Peppy, I absolutely love the key frame. It's superb -- industrial and chic and fun. I don't have spare keys to send you to make me one or I would right away. I'm trying to think what else you could do like this -- maybe buttons, which can be so beautiful? But I love the metal of the keys.
