Finished Another Book!

I can honestly say I’ve read more books in the past 12 weeks than I did in the past 7 years.  I didn’t read much at all when I owned the shop, but now I’m REALLY enjoying catching up!

Today, things were quiet at work (even though the boss was in), and I finished THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE.  It was quite good, but it was necessary to really concentrate and think a lot, because of the fact that it went back and forth in time so much.  Not an easy read, but a really enjoyable one.

I see a theme in book titles these days, since I just read THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE and also read THE SAMURAI’S GARDEN and THE MEMORY KEEPER’S DAUGHTER.  They all have possessive titles!  Another theme is that all the books I read are being made into movies!  THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE, THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES and THE MEMORY KEEPER’S DAUGHTER.

The only thing I have to read tomorrow is a book Eric read, which he said was “okay.”  It’s called VIOLETS ARE BLUE, by James Patterson.  It will have to do until I get to the library.  I found out the library is down the block from our apartment, so I’ll be going this weekend to join!  I have been wanting to go to the library for months, but I didn’t know where it was.  I finally googled it and – it’s around the corner!!!

Today was pretty slow at work, which is why I was able to finish my book.  I was helping with a big client meeting tomorrow, but someone else was doing the presentation and all I had to do was put together all the materials in the folders and collect business cards from all internal people attending.  My boss is SO weird.  I had to get business cards from 7 executives, to include in the folders.  I asked him if I should send an email, telling them I needed their business cards, and they could leave it on their desks, or with their assistants, or I could pick it up.

So, my boss says, “No, we’re very informal around here.  Just go to their offices and ask them.”  So, I say, “Well, what if they’re in a meeting, or on the phone, or not at their desk?”  So he says, “Keep trying.”  So, I spent the better part of two hours going from office to office on three different floors trying to collect the cards.  I know I don’t have much else to do, but does that IN ANY WAY seem an efficient use of time to ANYONE?  I really didn’t mind, because I got to walk around a lot and see parts of the office I never visited before, but I just thought it was a dumb idea.

Anyway, the woman I ride to work with (who is in HR) told me that they hired someone internally for my position, but they don’t know how soon she can start, because they may have to hire someone to replace her in her job and that may take time, and she will have to train someone.  She said that sometimes they’ll have someone spend ½ their day in one department and the other ½ in the new department, so that neither team is without someone.  I know they want me to train the new person in my responsibilities (which aren’t much), but I still think I’ll be out of a job within a few weeks.

I wrote to one agency today and told them to be on the lookout for a long-term temp job for me – preferably downtown.  The other agency is the one I’m currently working for and they will be notified by HR as soon as the firm knows when they won’t need me anymore.  It wouldn’t kill me to have a week or so off between jobs, but I’d much rather go from one job directly to the next.

The best possible scenario is that they need me somewhere else at this firm, so I can keep getting a ride to work, and I don’t have to transition to a whole new firm – just a new job.

Tonight when I got home I took a nap, because I was exhausted.  I started yawning in the car on the ride home and I could feel a nap coming on.  I actually read an article online today about a study done that says how beneficial naps are, so I don’t feel too bad about it!

After I woke up, I made NUTRISYSTEM pizzas and a nice salad for us and we had dinner and watched AMERICAN IDOL and then HELL’S KITCHEN.  Then, I watched the elimination show for DANCING WITH THE STARS.  We DO love our reality TV!

It cooled down a bit today, so the apartment did not feel like the inside of an oven, which was a great relief.  Eric is still not feeling well – his third day with a headache, but the cooler weather definitely helped.   It’s supposed to be back in the 60s tomorrow, which is more typical San Diego in April/May weather.  I’m really glad about that, because it was just too darn hot the last few days!
