It was raining when I left the house this morning. That’s unusual for San Diego – very unusual. I had a bad hair day because of it. That’s also unusual. My hair’s never looked so good as it has since I moved here. The usual lack of humidity works wonders, but today was different!
There’s a saying for May/June weather in San Diego – Gray May and Gloom June, because a lot of that period is very overcast. It’s something about the fog rolling off the ocean or the bay, or something like that. Anyway, it’s still pleasant, it’s just overcast and not as warm. People in San Diego actually complain, but they just don’t know good weather when they see it! Here, it may be overcast, but it’s still in the 60s or 70s every day. In NY, it might be overcast and in the 50s in the beginning of May. I’ll take this anyday!
I had another day of very little to do and finished my book. One of the guys I work for, who usually works out of his home in New Jersey and only comes to SD about once a month is from England. He saw that I was reading Dick Francis (who is also English) and we talked about his books for a while. He said he owns every single book he's written.
Late in the afternoon, when it was obvious I was going to finish this one, I called Eric. He was down by the water, riding his bike. I didn’t know what time the library closed, so I asked him to please go to the library and get me another Dick Francis mystery, because my boss is going to be away for the rest of the week and I’ll have absolutely nothing to do. The thought of sitting at my desk without something to read is actually frightening. I've seen how time can stand still when I have nothing to occupy my mind.
When I got home, Eric wasn’t home, so I called him and he was at the library, getting his card and getting my book. I decided to walk over there and waited for him while he finished filling out the form and got his library card. I got my book (the librarian picked one out for him, because I asked him to get one of his later books), he got his library card, and we walked back to the apartment together.
He had a basketball game on at 5:00pm, so he already missed the first half hour. He started to watch the game, while he worked on his bicycle, and I watched DR. PHIL and then a DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES episode I had missed the other day.
Then, I watched MEDIUM – one of my favorite shows. Mel Ferrer was a guest star and it was such a great episode!
I made us leftover swordfish and big salads for dinner and then we had watermelon for dessert. When Eric’s game was over we watched AMERICAN IDOL (I’m in love with David Archuleta) and then HELL’S KITCHEN (which we both really enjoy).
I’m very excited to start another book tomorrow. This one is called DRIVING FORCE. They’re all great, so I know I’ll enjoy it! I know I'm really spoiled, because I've been reading and relaxing for over 12 weeks with very little stress and not much to do. I wouldn't mind really working hard, if they were able to keep me busy, and I actually enjoyed the days when there was a lot of work, because the day went by much faster, but I'm not complaining about this job. No, I'm not complaining. It will be over before I know it and who knows WHAT I'll be doing next!
