Peppy Gets A Library Card!

MY SERVER WAS DOWN AGAIN LAST NIGHT, WHICH IS WHY THIS IS LATE!

So, guess where the library is?  It’s right down the block – next to the CITIBANK across the street.  I mean it’s about 1,000 feet from my apartment!  I never drive down that block, so I never noticed it before, but we’ve been here 7 months and we’ve both been buying books and we could have been going to the library the whole time!

So, I woke up at 8:30am, because the boys downstairs woke me, but I went to bed pretty early, so it really was enough sleep.  I worked on the computer, paid some bills, and then watched some TV.

I had a lot of errands to run, including going to the library.  Eric asked me to get a book out for him, too – something by Stephen King.  I got my library card (whee!), got him a STEPHEN KING book and also a CLIVE BARKER book (his other favorite author).  I got a DICK FRANCIS mystery.  I haven’t read DICK FRANCIS in over 10 years, but I’ve read at least 10 of his books (he’s written over 30 mysteries) and I love his work.

I also went to the dry cleaners to get my black slacks cleaned, got my eyebrows waxed, went to the card store, STARBUCKS, TJ MAXX (just to look), BIG LOTS (for a present for Eric – a toaster oven – more on that later), and got a pedicure at HAPPY NAILS.  That was a lot of errands in one day!  I was going to go food shopping, too, but decided I could leave that for tomorrow.  I was exhausted when I got home!

The reason I got the toaster oven is that we always had one in Whitestone and here we were using the microwave or oven for most everything, but we couldn’t make toast!  It’s a total waste to turn on the oven just to toast a slice of bread and Eric does love to toast bread for sandwiches.  First, I was going to buy a regular toaster, but then I realized the toaster oven was a better idea, because that way we could heat things up without turning on the regular oven, which heats up the whole apartment!

I gave Eric his book and he was happy with my choice.  He started it already and said it was pretty good so far.  It’s called FROM A BUICK 8 and the story kind of sounded like CHRISTINE, which is one of Eric’s favorites, so I knew he’d like it.

My book is called COME TO GRIEF.  In case you’re not familiar with him, Dick Francis was a super-star jockey in England, retired (in the late ‘50s) after many injuries, started writing about horse-racing and eventually started to write mysteries, each if which involved horses and horse racing.
I first read one of his books in 1986.  I never would have read any of his mysteries, since I never had an interest in horse-racing until I met my friend, Elizabeth in 2002.  The only reason I read it is that a friend at work (Price Waterhouse, at the time), recommended it and insisted that I try it.  I was hooked and read one after another for a long time.  His works are beautifully written, and he can make you laugh out loud.  I can’t wait!

Tomorrow I’m going to a CRAFT MAFIA craft show at the same coffee house I went to 2 months ago.  They asked me if I wanted to sell at this show, but it’s a very small show and I gave most of my stuff to GILI ANNA, so I decided to just go and support them, instead of actually selling.  It’s a lot of work, and the last time I went there weren’t many customers, so it hardly seemed worth it.

There was absolutely nothing on TV tonight, even SNL is a repeat.  Very disappointing!  Don’t you think Saturday is the worst day of TV – all day and all night?  SNL is usually the only thing to look forward to, and even that’s not new!  I wanted to save my book for the work week, but maybe I’ll just have to start it tonight!
