We woke up around 9:00am today. Little Drummer Boy was going swimming again with his little buddy and he was making quite a fuss. I should take a picture of him somehow, so you can see what he looks like, but I’ll describe him to you. He’s about 4, blonde, with a haircut like Dennis the Menace (which is, actually another good nickname for him). He was wearing red bathing trunks that reached down to his knees, flippers, googles, a colorful tube around his waist (to keep him floating) and held those plastic tubes you put in your mouth when you snorkel. All this equipment to go in the shallow side of our pool!
He was walking with the flippers, which wasn’t easy since they were almost as long as he was tall. Each time he had to lift his feet up high and made this very annoying flapping noise. If he wasn’t so cute, I’d drown him. Anyway, I was excited to have breakfast with the boys, so I jumped in the shower, so I’d be ready when Joe called.
Eric showered right after me and Joe called. We made plans to pick them up at the hotel at 11:15am. It wasn’t as hot out as yesterday, but it was definitely still hot in the apartment. We drove to the hotel and I went to find Joe and Miguel in STARBUCKS. There was one in the lobby of the hotel. I’ve never seen THAT before – definitely MY kind of hotel!
They bought me a mocha frappucino light, got some coffee for themselves and we headed out (Eric isn’t much for STARBUCKS, so he didn’t want anything). I wanted to take them to the WAFFLE SPOT, because it was a really cute place and their breakfasts were great. I had gone there with Scott and Rory a few weeks ago, since it was right next to Scott’s hotel. We had a lot of fun and a great meal, so I was happy to go back.
I decided to have a totally decadent breakfast – a Double Cup Waffle – with white and milk chocolate chips and whipped cream. The waffles are so good that you don’t even need syrup or butter (but I had some of each anyway!).
The boys all had more basic breakfasts with eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. Everyone enjoyed it tremendously and we had fun with the menu and a mural on the wall, which features characters like Sir Wafflelot (who has a butter pat for a nose), Sir Up (a syrup dispenser that looks like a knight), Miss Muffin, and our favorite – the Banger Family – which are sausages with arms and legs, some of whom were wearing hats. We laughed a lot about that.
I have to mention that I'm old and feeble, because I was so mad at myself for forgetting my camera yesterday -- and then I forgot it AGAIN today! I wish I could have taken pictures of the boys by the mural, so you could see all the characters, but at least I was able to find Sir Wafflelot for you to enjoy!
After breakfast we drove downtown a little further, because Joe (who is a huge METS fan) wanted to see PETCO PARK. There was actually a Padres/Tigers game going on and we could see the crowd in the stands. It’s an interesting stadium and Joe was telling us some of the history. Apparently, some of the buildings were put on wheels and moved from one location to another, including a candy factory, which we saw as we drove past.
Eric wanted to keep driving – showing them the Gaslamp Quarter and other neighborhoods, but the boys wanted to get back on the road to Los Angeles, so we drove them back to the hotel. I could see that Eric enjoys their company and he was having such a great time with them. That made me really happy, and I think they could see how much Eric appreciated and enjoyed them.
Eric really wants to go to Los Angeles to mountain bike with Miguel. I want to visit them and see a show with Joe. He and I share a passion for theatre and I’d see another musical in Los Angeles. I had a great time with Ilene when we saw WICKED. They do have great theatre in Los Angeles and I want to take advantage of it while I’m still on the West Coast!
When Eric and I got home I dropped him off and immediately went to KEILS to do our food shopping. When I got back from food shopping, Eric went down to the laundry room with me and I did three loads of laundry.
When the laundry was done, I was ready for a nap. Unfortunately, it was so hot in the bedroom that I could hardly sleep – even with the fan pointed right on me. I finally fell asleep and Eric woke me at 8:00pm. He made us a delicious dinner of salmon for me, swordfish for himself, with asparagus and mushrooms. It was SO good. He’s a really good cook and I so appreciate when he makes us dinner.
I watched a two-hour special 100th episode of EXTEME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION. It was really touching and they had families from other episodes there to help and to say what a big difference their new homes have had on their lives. I love that show and was touched by the gratitude and appreciation they expressed.
Tomorrow should be pretty quiet at work. My boss is out every day this week except Wednesday morning, and we’ve pretty much got everything under control. We do have some PowerPoint presentations yet to complete, but I don’t anticipate any problems.
This was such a great weekend. The concert on Friday night and two wonderful days with our friends. Every weekend should be this much fun!
