I went to bed at 9:30pm last night. That’s a record for me! I know if there was anything decent on TV I would have stayed up, which is bad, but there wasn’t, which is good. I did wake up around 5:00am this morning. First, the guy downstairs (“the cougher”) had his radio alarm clock blasting.
For a second I thought it was MY alarm clock, but then I remembered I don’t “wake to music.” With our bedroom window open and his bedroom window open, there’s really about 10 feet between him and us and I’m sure he woke a few neighbors up.
Then, a bird started chirping. If I didn’t have an alarm clock, I could pretty much be sure to wake up on time anyway, because the birds love to chirp as the sun rises. Ever notice that?
So, I got up early, got showered and dressed early, and was ready to leave by 7:00am. Yesterday, my sister-in-law, Susan, called while I was in my friend’s car on our way home from work. I told her I’d call her back in 20 minutes, but of course when I walked in the door Eric and I started talking and I got undressed and turned on the computer and completely forgot. So, I figured I’d go outside early and call her while I waited for my ride to come. It was 10:00am in NY, so I knew she’d be out and about (probably for hours). I got to talk to Susan for about 10 minutes before my ride arrived.
When I got to work I started doing my HR project immediately. This project is never-ending and is something I need to do every single day. They receive hundreds of resumes via email every week. Each needs to be printed and also saved on the network (so they can be accessed by the people who will be interviewing them). After they’re printed and saved, I need to input each one on an Excel spreadsheet. The last two steps are to put a cover page on each one, with certain pertinent information, and then distribute each to the HR manager handling the hiring of that position.
Don’t get me wrong – this is easy work. There’s nothing challenging or difficult. It’s just that it’s frustrating that it never ends. As soon as I print the last few emails and go through all the steps, there are more coming in. They come in overnight. They come in on Saturday and Sunday. They never stop. They come from all over San Diego, California, the country, and the world! Everyone wants to work for this firm! The firm advertises on MONSTER.COM, CAREER BUILDER.COM, CRAIGSLIST.COM and also on their website.
I didn’t have much to do for my group or with my trainee today, so I was able to concentrate on my HR responsibilities – and my new book. I read a little over 100 pages today and it’s already GREAT! The main character – John March – a PI in NY – is interesting, the story is exciting and the author definitely has a way with words. I can’t wait to tell the boss how much I’m enjoying it. I see more bonding in our future!
When I got home I relaxed and watched DR. PHIL while Eric made the most delicious dinner yet. He really has taken over in the kitchen, which I greatly appreciate. He’s really creative and comes up with great combinations. He steams lots of fresh vegetables and either makes fish (or chicken for himself) or veggie burgers, faux chicken cutlets, or those delicious veggie latkes (that’s what I call them, because they taste more like a latke than a burger). Then, he insists on washing all the dishes. I really appreciate everything he does for me.
I had some sewing to do – repairing the belt loop on a dress and a few other things, which I did while watching LEGALLY BLONDE. The show is going really well and they’re eliminating all the girls I didn’t like. Shows they’ve got good taste! I think I know who should win already, and there are still 6 of them left. Her name is Rhiannon and she is SO cute. She has a great smile – acts great, dances great, sings great. A real triple threat – and she’s really funny, too. Elle is such an intricate character, because she has to be ditzy and smart at the same time! She’s not a dumb blonde, but more naïve and fresh.
After LB Eric and I watched HELL’S KITCHEN. It was down to the final three, and I’ve got a winner in mind for THAT show, too! I did well going to bed early last night, so I plan to do the same again tonight. The boss will be in tomorrow morning, so I know it’s going to be crazy until his car picks him up at 12:15pm to take him to the airport. Then it’s back to RED CAT (which, by the way, is a tattoo a woman has on her inner thigh!).
