Short and Sweet!

That title refers to this blog entry AND my day at work!  When I got into the car with my ride this morning, she told me that she wanted to leave at 3:00pm today.  She asked if I wanted to leave at 3:00pm too, or if I wanted Eric to pick me up.  I told her Eric was going to L.A. this afternoon and wouldn’t be there to pick me up, so I’d leave when she left.  It was VERY quiet today, so I really appreciated getting out early!

All I did today was some HR work and I read my Dick Francis book, which is really getting GREAT!  I had lots of plans for things to do on my “night alone” but when I got home I just watched DR. PHIL and took a nap.  I really don’t have ANY energy for ANYTHING.  I’ve lost my motivation for everything.  I never had any motivation for exercise to begin with, but now I can’t even get motivated to do some crafting.

I only seem to have the energy to watch TV and eat.  I can pull it together when I need to, like getting the apartment in ship-shape for our visitors.  I also have plenty of energy when I’m excited about something – like dancing for two hours without stopping at the EW&F concert.  I just lack the motivation to be active for the sake of burning calories.

So, back to my day.  I did have a lovely nap and, when I woke up, Eric called from L.A.  He was working on Miguel’s bike and they were going out to get dinner.  He was happy and excited about his ride tomorrow.  He sounded wonderful.  I’m really happy that he has a friend to ride with.

He’s ridden in L.A. before.  Years ago, he went riding with a friend, Darren, and he had a great time.  He’s wanted to go back to L.A. to ride and I’m glad he finally had the opportunity.

I worked on the computer, paying bills, organizing my desk, and watched more TV – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and UGLY BETTY and DATELINE.  Then, I watched a new show called DANCE MACHINE.  They have six dancers who dance to different types of music (hip-hop, disco, country, etc.) and the winner gets $100,000.  It was kind of lame.  I don’t see it lasting very long.

Eric bought a graduation card for our nephew, Steven, who graduated from High School yesterday!  His birthday is tomorrow.  Happy Birthday and Congratulations on your graduation, Steven!  We’re proud of you!

Steven is Eric’s sister Susan’s oldest boy.  They lived walking distance from my shop in New Hyde Park.  Steven was very excited when I opened my shop and he and his brother, Anthony, used to visit me a lot, whenever they were nearby.  They would always offer their help – moving furniture, painting, bringing me lunch.  They'd come in with a bunch of their friends, just because they were walking by.  Whenever it snowed -- for five years -- Steven and Anthony would shovel the sidewalk in front of my shop.  They were my angels!

I got to bond with them over a 5-year period and saw a lot more of them than I would have had if I didn’t have the shop.  It was true with my niece, Ashley, too, who would come by with her school friends.  They thought it was so cool that her aunt owned the coolest shop in town (yes – it was!).
I really miss them.  They’re the youngest of my nieces and nephews and they’re all growing up so fast!

Tomorrow I’ll do laundry and go food shopping with my new black metal cart, which arrived yesterday – perfect timing!  Eric put it together today (it just needed the back wheels put on) and it’s really cute.  It’s not very old-lady-like and will serve me well when I need to run errands without the car!
