Twenty-Four Years Wed!

Sometimes I can’t believe Eric and I have actually been together for 26 years, and wed for 24.  It seems like yesterday.  I also really can’t believe how old I am.  Am I really 50?  Inside I feel like I’m still 25.  Unfortunately, I have a tendency to dress that way, too.  I have to realize that there are styles I just can’t wear anymore.

They had an article online about the 10 things women shouldn’t wear after 40.  I am proud to say that I don’t wear 8 out of 10!  The things I DO still wear are miniskirts and platform shoes (although usually not together!).  If I was thinner, I might wear a couple of other “over 40 don’ts,” but until I lose those last 10 pounds, I probably won’t.

So, I dressed up a little this morning, since I know Eric’s taking me out to dinner tonight.  I wore my flowered chiffon pleated skirt and a black sweater set.  I call this skirt my “cabaret skirt,” because I wore it when I performed in my very first cabaret show in June of 1991.  Yes, this skirt is 17 years old.  It looks brand new!  I love the colors and the patterns and I think the real reason I’ve been able to wear it over the last 17 years is – it has an elastic waist!!!!  Yes, I admit it!  I wear elastic-waist clothing.

The reason for that is that if I gain even one pound, it goes right to my waist.  I have always had a thick waist and that’s where I carry my weight (which, unfortunately, is the worst place).  So, this skirt has been with me through thick and thin – literally!

Work was CRAZY today.  My boss needed a PowerPoint presentation done and just told us about it at 10:00am this morning.  All the training my trainee received from another employee on Wednesday was put to use today.  I did all the other work needed to get the materials together for his meeting on Wednesday and she worked all day on this presentation

She had it finished and I sent it to be copied and bound at 3:40pm and it was ready for UPS to ship at 4:00pm.  Now, we just have to pray that it gets to his hotel tomorrow, so he will get it when he arrives tomorrow night and will have it for his meeting on Wednesday morning.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Today was very stressful, but tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday should be a breeze, which means lots of DICK FRANCIS!  I did get to read some of my book today, and it’s really getting to the best part!  I’m looking forward to finishing it tomorrow.  I already have another one waiting at home!

When I got home Eric was waiting for me and we just turned around and went back out.  We went to HAIKU, our favorite sushi place.  We told everyone it was our anniversary.  They took our picture with a Polaroid and put it on their “wall of fame” behind the sushi bar.  They also gave us a complimentary dessert.  They’re so nice there!

While we were at the restaurant my sister called and I got to talk to her and then my Mom.  They wanted to wish us a happy anniversary!

After that, we drove around for a while.  It was a gorgeous night.  Eric asked me if I wanted to drive to Mexico.  I’m pretty sure he was kidding!  We did go to RITE AID, because I’m still looking for my old lady shopping cart.  No luck there, but Eric said he’d find me one tomorrow.

While we were in the car our friends Joe and Miguel called to let us know they’re coming to San Diego for the weekend.  We are SO excited.  We just saw them in L.A. a few weeks ago and we’re so happy we’ll get to see them again.  They’re so much fun.  They’re coming Saturday afternoon and said we’d all hang out Saturday night and Sunday and then they’ll drive back to L.A.  Wheeeee!

When we got home we had another telephone call – my other sister called to wish us a happy anniversary.  It was so great to hear from everyone and to know they’re thinking of us.  I really miss my sisters, even though I never got to see them when we lived in NY!  It’s hard just knowing they’re so far away.

I found out my nephew is going to be living with some friends in Hoboken, N.J. this summer.  He’s trying to find a job in Manhattan.  My niece is working in Nyack and commuting about an hour a day.  She’s going to be moving in with a friend soon and will be closer to work, which will be much easier.  Everyone’s doing great, which is good to hear.  My parents are still visiting with them, but will be leaving on Wednesday morning.  They’ve all been having a wonderful time together.

Eric and I are going to see EARTH WIND & FIRE on Friday night.  We’re so excited.  This is our big anniversary celebration (even though we already celebrated Saturday and today).  We LOVE EW&F and this is our fourth time seeing them in concert.  We saw them with CHICAGO twice at Jones Beach (two July 4th weekends in a row) and it was such a great concert.

Now, we have even more to look forward to this weekend.  A concert on Friday, and friends coming to town on Saturday.  It doesn’t get much better than that!
