Eric spent the day with his sisters today. He went with his sister, Robin and his brother-in-law, Brian, to see their daughter, Melissa, who is in the hospital. She was suffering for 6 weeks and her doctor couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her. Her boss finally convinced her to go to the emergency room. They admitted her and within 12 hours had a diagnosis. She is now being treated and we hope will soon be well. Say a prayer for our Melissa’s speedy recovery!
Eric seemed in better spirits today. He’s planning to go visit our friend, Kaja, tomorrow in the nursing home where she lives in Melville, on Long Island. She’s 94 and she just spent a week in the hospital, but she’s hanging in there and I’m so happy Eric will get to see her. I wish I could be there with her, too, but at least he’ll be there for both of us.
I had a pretty good day at work. I haven’t been sleeping well (which, I guess, under the circumstances is understandable), so I’m exhausted. I yawn a lot. The mornings are harder, because this job is SO darn complicated and it’s a little stressful. It’s not really busy, and the people I’m working with are SO nice, but it just seems to me that I’ll NEVER get the procedures down. I feel like I’ll always have to ask for help, and when I do that I’m not really helping, am I?
Anyway, afternoons are a breeze. I am now devoting a lot of time to the new database and I input data all afternoon. It’s tedious work, but the girls are all so nice and friendly and helpful and we all complain together. I want to do well for them and really make a contribution, so I work as fast and as hard as I can.
I had an appointment after work, so I didn’t get home until 6:30pm. I didn’t feel like walking, so I figured I’d just spend some time exercising in the pool. Unfortunately, there were people (a father and his two daughters) playing in the pool, so it wasn’t a good time for me to do my laps.
I was pretty hungry anyway, because I was working so hard during lunch that I didn’t eat much of my salad. I wasn’t really hungry, so I threw most of it away and then when I got home (at 6:30pm) I was ravenous. I made a wrap with some cheese and had snap peas on the side. I just wanted something fast and easy!
I watched last night’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and then tonight’s elimination show. I do so enjoy all the young dancers on the show. They’re so talented and work so hard. They’re under so much pressure and it must all be very stressful, but they do a great job and it’s very entertaining. They’re going on tour (just like AMERICAN IDOL and DANCING WITH THE STARS). I’d love to see them dance in person. They’re really magnificent!
Tomorrow is finally Friday! This week seemed very long to me (again, understandable) and I am really looking forward to the picnic on Saturday. The whole office is buzzing with excitement. There will be about 600 people there. The party is from 3:00pm – 8:00pm and it’s being held at a venue called THE WAVEHOUSE. There is something called “The Plunge” (an indoor swimming pool) and you get admission to Belmont Park with unlimited rides. There’s a raffle. There’s a buffet from 4-6pm. There are surf shows and a Sunset Firedance Show.
There’s a bar and each person gets two tickets for free drinks. I already gave mine to the woman who’s training me, because she said she was hoping to get some extra tickets and I’m not much of a drinker – one will be enough for me!
We also have access to the beach, which is right there, and there’s a pool, too. Something for everyone! There are two wave machines – Bruticus Maximus and Flowrider. Flowrider is the smaller of the two wave machines and is one of the waterpark industry’s safest attractions. It features a patented sheet wave which creates an endless wave for riders to both stand and body board on.
Bruticus Maximus (as it’s name implies) features a 10-foot, one million pound macking tube, requiring riders to test their fusion of surf, skate and snow techniques. I wouldn’t dare try it, but I can’t wait to see it!
The firm had their summer picnic there last year, too, and everyone said it was just fabulous. I’m really looking forward to socializing with the employees outside of the office, and seeing what this Wavehouse is all about!
I really appreciate all our friends and family who have reached out to us. We love you all and are so grateful to have you in our lives. Your phone calls and emails are very much appreciated. Thank you!
