I Feel The Earth Move!

I didn’t go to sleep until 11:30am, but I still woke up before the alarm.  I find that SO frustrating.  I don’t know why I can’t stay asleep until the alarm goes off, no matter how tired I feel!

I felt like crap this morning.  I know this is probably TMI for the guys reading this, but it’s my “time of the month” and even though I’m fifty, I’m crampy, and uncomfortable and in pain.  It really IS “the curse!”

I had a pretty good day at work.  I got a project that was pretty easy and kept me busy for most of the morning, so that was good.  I was standing in a friend’s cubicle, talking to her, and all of a sudden I felt something weird.  I really didn’t know what it was, but my first thought was that someone was moving something very heavy and the floor was shaking.  Then, my friend said, “Oh.  An earthquake!”  I couldn’t believe how calmly she said it.

The floor started to move, and the plants and Venetian blinds started swaying.  It was unreal.  I couldn’t believe it was happening.  It lasted about 10 seconds.  The whole office was up and about, talking about it.  Everyone wanted to know if this was my first earthquake and then announced I was no longer an “Earthquake Virgin!”

Everywhere I went, the rest of the day, that’s all people were talking about.  I got emails from San Francisco, New Paltz, New York, Long Island, Florida, and Los Angeles.  My cousins in Los Angeles both emailed.  They were fine, but much harder hit than we were in San Diego.  I called Eric.  He didn’t feel a thing!

When I got down to HR I started working diligently on the database inputting project until we all stopped working for a birthday party for one of the girls.  She’s the one I know the least, because she was on vacation for almost a month, and she’s very shy and quiet, too.

She had expressed a preference for Lemon Meringue pie, so that’s what they bought her.  They gave her some kind of gift card, too, but I didn’t chip in, and I didn’t see what kind it was.  We talked and laughed and ate Birthday Pie for about a half hour, and then I took everyone’s dirty plates, threw them out, and went back to work.  I just feel a little funny hanging around too long, when I’m getting paid by the hour!  Plus, I wanted to get back to my project, because I’m trying to get it all done!

The rest of the afternoon flew by and I had a huge pile of finished work by the end of the day.  I felt great – I had made a real contribution!

We have another birthday party on Thursday and I chipped in for this gift, because I really like this girl and I feel it’s only fair if I’m going to be part of the party!  They kept insisting I didn’t have to, but it felt right – and it was only $8!

When I got home, I wanted to walk, but I was really feeling “pooky.”  That’s the only word I can use to describe how I felt.  I wasn’t sick, just yucky, and not up to anything more than a nap.
Eric watched TV with me and we both fell asleep for a while.  When we woke up we made dinner together – salads and the veggie burgers I call “latkes.”  They’re delicious!

We watched Gordon Ramsey’s KITCHEN NIGHTMARES.  It was about a place in Los Angeles called SEBASTIAN’S in Burbank.  From what I could find online, the place is no longer in business – and I’m not surprised.  I’m sure my cousin, Ilene, can tell me for sure, since it’s not far from where she lives and I’m sure she’s heard of it.  The episode originally aired last November, and I read that the restaurant closed in January.  There’s probably another, very successful restaurant there now.  It was a great location, and a great space, but the owner was an idiot!

After that show I came out to work on the computer and we had some gelato.  I was supposed to start my decoupage project tonight, but no such luck.  I did take my “before” pictures of the clear glass vase I’m going to decorate for my friend at work.  She had given me a bouquet of flowers in this vase when I left the group to go my new positions.  I know once I get started I will be so into it and enjoy it so much, but I just can’t get started.  Maybe tomorrow?
