Do you believe it’s the end of July already? The summer is half over! When I was in NY, I’d already be getting a little anxious (no, really!) because I’d be worrying about the cold weather. It’s weird not worrying about that. I still get a little anxious because time flies so fast, but then I realize it doesn’t matter, because I don’t have to live through another winter in NY. That’s a good feeling.
So, this morning I brought to work a gelato container full of cereal, and another gelato container half-filled with soy milk, for my breakfast. That was about 3 days worth of milk. I also had my salad and a sandwich bag of cherries. I was using a vintage black straw tote bag I have that is SO cute, because I was carrying some papers to work, too, and needed something bigger than my usual lunch bags.
I decided to wrap all the food in a plastic KEIL’S (pronounced “Kyle’s”) bag, just to be safe. Good thing I did! When I got to work I realized the gelato container with the soy milk had opened and spilled out. If I didn’t have it inside the plastic bag, everything would have been soaked with soy milk, including the fabric lining of my beautiful vintage straw tote! I just had dry cereal for breakfast with my iced coffee (which I treated myself to, because I thought I deserved a treat).
What I realized is that those pint-size gelato containers are not really that air tight, because what is supposed to go in there is frozen, so you don’t have to worry about it spilling. I need to put a piece of Press ‘n Seal around it to make sure it doesn’t leak.
So, the woman who’s training me in the mornings left at 9:00am to watch her son play in a baseball game, so I was on my own until right before I left at noon. I had a lot of work to do, and managed to get a lot of things accomplished, but what I was doing was setting up emails to our sponsors attaching documents we publish, and I can’t send anything (or won’t, because I’m too nervous) without my co-worker approving everything, so nothing got sent today, because she was gone all morning!
At noon I went to see Bob’s house with another co-worker. It’s really cute and I like it a lot, but it does need a new kitchen. He wanted to have it done before he moved in, but he’s going away on vacation the first week in August, and he wants to move in on September 1st and there’s no way it’s getting done in a month. It would take a month to find a contractor, pick out everything he needs, and get started! So, I’m glad I talked him out of doing it right away, even though it DOES need to get done.
Everything else is pretty good – the wood floors are in excellent shape and the carpet, although very utilitarian, is in excellent condition and there’s nothing wrong with it, so he can save himself a lot of money by just keeping it.
The house has a lot of character -- wide open, with lots of windows and sunlight -- a peaked ceiling in the kitchen with a skylight, and another in the living room with a working fireplace.
When we got back, I went to HR and ate my salad while I worked. HR is so much fun. I enjoy all the work I’m doing (even when it’s very tedious data input) and everyone there is SO nice.
Tomorrow we’re having a birthday cake for one of the girls, and we’re having a FRIENDS birthday party on Thursday for another HR girl who LOVES that show. They’re having a FRIENDS trivia contest and I think I have a good chance, because I loved that show, too! This group is lots of fun!
When I got home, I changed immediately and Eric and I went for a nice walk down the hill and back. We walked a little further than I’ve walked, but not too far. We were both huffing and puffing on the way back and my legs were killing me.
When we got back to the apartment, Eric watched TV in bed and I did six laps around the pool. Then, I jumped in the shower and we had dinner. Eric had cereal with cantelope and I had a NUTRISYSTEM veggie lasagna. Then I had some cantaloupe, too!
We watched K-PAX, which I had recorded last night. It was weird and very dissatisfying. Was he an alien or NOT? And where’s Bess? I love Kevin Spacey, so I thought it was worthwhile, but the best part was that David Patrick Kelly, an actor Eric and I knew and liked from the 80s, had a big part in the movie. It took me almost an hour to figure out who he was, but it finally hit me. He hasn’t aged very well!
When I’m sitting at my computer, I can see my lucky bamboo. I found the perfect planter for it. I had a tall frosted drinking glass with an Asian design – a man pulling a woman in a rickshaw. I put lots of semi-precious stones all around the bamboo to support the three stems – rose quartz, turquoise, etc., and it looks really pretty. I had it right on the table in the dining area. I just didn’t think it was safe there, because the bamboo’s so tall and it’s a little top heavy. If you put something down on the table, it might just go over, so I moved it to one of the shelves holding my knick-knacks. It looks great!
I’m not much of a plant person, but I think I can handle the bamboo. I used to have lots of it in the shop and it’s pretty easy to care for! I always liked to put bamboo in sugar bowls that had no lid, or teapots with no lid. It made for an unusual and appealing planter, and gave new life to something that had lost it’s true purpose!
I am determined to start my decoupage project tomorrow. I’ve been putting it off for weeks already. I know once I get started I will enjoy every minute and I do want to give it to my friend at work. I just need to get motivated. I put out my apron, and my materials, so I will see it tomorrow and get to work. I’ll take before and after pictures, so you can see the fruits of my labor!
