Back To Reality!

After such a great weekend, it was really hard to get up this morning and go back to work, even though I love my job!  I started the day with an iced decaf vanilla mocha latte, and treated Elsa, too.  She had a really hard morning, and it seemed everything was going wrong.  I felt bad for her, so I figured a Café Americana (that’s what she loves) would cheer her right up – and I was right!

I worked in KRM all morning and it was pretty uneventful.  At noon I went downstairs to HR.  It’s been really busy – not stressful busy, but just enough work to keep me going all day without a break (unless I want to check my yahoo emails!).  One of the girls in HR had a meeting with my boss and they decided to try to get my morning job posted for a full-time employee to be hired and then I’d get to spend all my time in HR.  Wheeee!  It may not happen until October, but it’s sure something to look forward to!

When I got home I immediately turned around and Eric and I went down to the laundry room.  I started two loads with all my work clothes (I didn’t get a chance to do it this weekend) and some towels and bedding.  While that was washing I started blogging and at 6:00pm I had a “date” with my friend Stephen, who lives in Canada (I lovingly refer to him as “Canadian Stephen!”).  He emailed and said he wanted to call me, and I said it’s so hard to coordinate with people, because of the time difference, so we made a date, so I’d be sure to be near my phone and wouldn’t miss his call.

At 6:00pm the phone rang and it was Stephen.  We’ve been friends for about 4 or 5 years now (it’s hard for me to remember, because it seems like forever), and before we moved to San Diego I’d get to see him 3 or 4 times a year, because he visited New York a LOT.  He dog-sits for some friends who live in a building off Riverside Drive, which is the exterior shot of Will Truman’s apartment on Will & Grace!  Every time I dropped him off I expected to see Karen’s limo outside, or Grace coming out with Jack!

Stephen was my best Broadway buddy and we saw a lot of shows together -- SWEET CHARITY, CHITA -- A DANCER'S LIFE, A CHORUS LINE, SPELLING BEE, amongst others.  He’s more of a New Yorker than most New Yorkers, because he goes everywhere and sees everything.  There isn’t a borough he hasn’t investigated and there’s hardly an historic spot he hasn’t experienced.  He’s had many great adventures, and one of them was meeting me – and my niece, April – as we were waiting on line to see LYPSINKA in one of her fabulous shows.  It was “friends at first sight” and we started emailing soon after.  Since that time, every time Stephen came to NY we’d go out together, see a show, and enjoy each other’s company.

Stephen made a trip to Whitestone to see our house and meet Eric before we left NY.  It makes me sad to think he’s been to the city and I haven’t been there to share it with him!  Anyway, we had a great talk and I found out that he’s going to be in NY starting on December 1st.  We had planned to leave NY on the 29th or 30th of November (right after Jessica’s wedding), but we may just have to stick around until the 1st, so Stephen and I can take in a show!

After the laundry was done I made a big salad.  Ilene had brought some beautiful vegetables from her garden, and I used a giant heirloom tomato.  It was so sweet and juicy.  We also cooked a piece of fish and some asparagus I had bought at Keil’s on Saturday.  I made enough salad for me and Eric to both have some for lunch tomorrow.

While we ate we watched Friday night’s new episode of MONK.  He got trapped on a submarine, investigating a murder, and it was so funny.  He’s very claustrophobic, and it made for lots of great laughs.

After that I finished Sunday’s blog (sorry I’ve been behind!) and then started today’s.  I’m finally caught up, back on track, and feelin’ pretty good about it!
