Neither Eric nor I have been sleeping well. I woke up at 3:30am and I guess I fell back to sleep, but it takes me a while and it’s so annoying. I went to bed before 11:00pm and Eric went outside to watch TV, so I could really sleep well. He can sleep just fine with the TV going, but it really does interrupt my sleep, so I appreciated it. I didn’t hear him come in, so I have no idea when he came to bed, but he told me this morning that he didn’t sleep well at all.\
I gave him my last SIMPLY SLEEP, so he could try to get some sleep this morning, and then I told him to go to the drug store today and buy us some TYLENOL PM. Now we’ll both be poppin’ sleeping pills in order to get some shut eye! We’re just both under a lot of stress, and it’s not unusal for it to affect your sleep. It’s not like we can’t figure out why we’re not sleeping well!
So, I’m glad it’s Friday. My big plans for the weekend include a pedicure and a cut and color tomorrow afternoon, and then I SWEAR I am going to decoupage that vase. I want to finish it over the weekend and then I’ll get Eric to varnish it for me. He’s really good at that stuff (better than me!).
I had a busy, yet not too stressful morning in KRM. I went downstairs to get myself a decaf mocha latte to have this afternoon. It’s my Friday treat to myself! I had a NUTRISYSTEM ravioli lunch. It comes in the tiniest cup and you microwave it for 45 seconds.
I had a big project in HR this afternoon. I had to put together employee benefit packets for new hires – information and forms for medical, dental, life insurance, work/life, etc. There are about 20 different pieces of paper that go into each packet. Some of the individual pieces are paper clipped together. It’s a whole big process and it’s more busy work than anything else, but I know everyone else dreads doing it. I don’t mind at all! It is easy and I like getting them together. I put together 15 packets and would have done more, but I need more copies of some of the forms and documents. There are some I can copy or print myself, but others have to come from the companies themselves (like BC/BS or The Hartford).
Everyone in HR cuts out early on Fridays and we were no different. We left at 4:30pm and I was home before 5:00pm. Eric and I just relaxed and I worked on the computer until it was time to leave to go meet our new friends for dinner. We met them at a place called the STUDIO DINER, off Balboa on Ruffin Road.
It’s fantastic! I don’t know how we never heard of it before, since it’s only about 5 miles from our apartment! Eric and I always complain about the lack of New York-style diners in San Diego – and this is the real McCoy, although it was built in the 90s. It’s owned by Stu Segall Productions, which is the only Motion Picture and Television Studio located in San Diego County. The studio was created in 1991 when San Diego was chosen as the location for the hit television series "Silk Stalkings". Since that time the studio has grown to encompass over 22 acres. Over 800 hours of prime time, network quality television series, 7 feature films and 30 two hour telefilms have been produced at the studio.
They built the diner so that the employees would have a great place to eat that’s close by! They have a wonderful menu. I had the crab cake sandwich – blue crab cake with lettuce, tomato, onion and remoulade on a toasted bun. It came with cole slaw. It was SO good!
Eric had Stu’s B.L.T with hickory smoked bacon, lettuce and tomato on whole wheat with onion rings that came with a delicious ranch dip!
Marianne had the pot roast and Alan had the meatloaf. Both came with mashed potatoes and veggies.
We all enjoyed the food and the atmosphere is a lot of fun. The place was packed by the time we finished dinner. We stayed and talked and then decided to get dessert. Eric and I split the Lava cake with vanilla ice cream and tons of whipped cream. Marianne and Alan split the warm Julian apple pie with vanilla ice cream.
I really enjoyed their company and it’s a shame they’ll only be here for 2 more weeks before heading back to New York. They come out here 3-4 times a year, for 2-3 weeks each time. They’ll be back in late September/October, but we already made plans to get together again before the leave on August 18th.
Marianne is a French/Italian middle-school teacher, but she just retired. Alan is an accountant, so he needs to be in New York during the busy tax season. They come out to their condo in San Diego as often as they can, and hope to retire here permanently in a few more years.
We got home a little before 9:00pm and I sat down at the computer to blog before we watched tonight’s new episode of MONK and PSYCH. We have no plans for the weekend, but I’m getting a pedicure at 1:00pm and my cut and color at HAIRSPRAY at 3:00pm.
We had a lot of fun tonight. It was great to get out with other people, socialize, eat a good meal in a fun environment and we really enjoyed ourselves. We’re looking forward to seeing them again!
