A Better Day In San Diego!

I slept pretty well last night, considering.  I woke up this morning and actually got to get dressed with the lights on!  I always dressed in the dark, because Eric was always sleeping, and it’s amazing how different outfits can look in the light of day!  One day I realized I had on navy blue capri pants, instead of black, and it bothered me all day long, because it didn’t match my outfit!

I spent a lot of time today thinking of my niece, Melissa, because I knew she had her operation today.  Someone was supposed to let me know everything was okay, and I'm assuming it was, because Eric never mentioned it when I spoke to him.  I know he has a lot on his mind, and I forgot to ask him, so I guess I'll hear from her tomorrow!

Elsa picked me up and we had a nice ride to work, as usual.  I got upstairs and immediately started to work on another data entry project.  We have another huge mailing to do and I needed to get account names and addresses from one database and put it into an excel spreadsheet.  It’s easy work, just very monotonous and repetitive.

One thing that makes it so much easier is the toggle function that my co-worker taught me.  I never knew about it and it’s really wonderful and makes going back and forth between two different documents so much easier.  Do you know about the “toggle feature?”  If not, press “alt” and hit “tab.”  If you’re in your email, but you also have WORD or POWERPOINT open, it will show you a window and you can toggle between anything you have open.  Just keep your finger on the “alt” key and keep hitting “tab.”   Try it – just be sure you have more than one program open!

Anyway, I alt-tab back and forth between Excel and the database and just copy and paste the information, finding one account after another.  It’s boring, but the times does go by and I’m making a contribution, and isn’t that what it’s all about?

At one point I had to run down to HR, because one of the girls is training me on different jobs that she does.  When a new employee starts, they take their picture and put it on a badge that gets them from floor to floor in the elevator and into certain doors in the building.  Today I learned how to take the picture (it comes up on the computer screen) and how to get the badges activated.  There are actually two – one is for the building (if you come after hours you can still get in) and one is for the firm.

Before I got to HR at noon I stopped in the cafeteria.  There’s a really nice guy who works there and I had asked last week if he had his turkey or chicken noodle soup, because it’s really delicious and I love the broth.  He said he didn’t, but he made some especially for me and one of the girls emailed to let me know!  I thought that was SO sweet, so of course I had to go and get some.  I ask for mostly broth, but there are lots of veggies in there, too, and a mix of noodles.  I guess he uses whatever he has in the kitchen!  There’s also occasionally a piece of turkey or chicken, but I just leave that in the bottom of the cup!

After lunch, I started working on my resumes.  I was kind of behind because I was out on Monday, so I had my work cut out for me.  When I ran errands with Eric on Monday I had to go to STAPLES to get a black and white cartridge for my Lexmark printer, and I saw these beautiful file folders.  I decided to get them and make up a folder for each job we are trying to fill.  I usually just hand the girls a bunch of resumes (each girl has responsibility for different positions), but today I gave them their pile in a beautiful file folder with the job name on it and they LOVED it!

I just think it will keep them organized and make their desks look pretty.  And isn’t THAT what it’s all about, too?

At 5:00pm Elsa and I headed home.  I invited Elsa to go see DREAMGIRLS with me this weekend, since Eric won’t be here.  I initially invited Jimmy, but it was such short notice, so he’s coming down to visit in a few weeks instead.

Elsa said she’d love to go, but her mother is supposed to come to town for the weekend, so if she can’t I’m going to ask another girl I work with in HR.  She’s single, so I figure she would like going out.  She’s a lot of fun, too – one of my favorites in the group.  I told Elsa if I can’t find anyone to go with me (it IS very short notice), I’ll just go myself.  I really wouldn’t mind at all.  I’m not going to miss a show just because I don’t have anyone to go with.

When I got home I made a snack of edamame.  I was watching DR. PHIL when Eric called.  He sounded pretty good.  I spoke to him 3 or 4 times today and each time I could see he was really making an effort to be “up” but I kind of didn’t believe it.   Anyway, he’s really trying, and that’s what counts.

After I hung up with him, I fell asleep.  I woke up after 8:00pm.  Boy, that’s going to screw me up later, isn’t it?  I had some great TV on tonight – AMERICA’S GO TALENT, PROJECT RUNWAY, AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, and TOP DESIGN.  Okay, so they’re all reality shows, but they’re all new!

I’m going to have a bowl of Cheerios, watch some TV and hope I fall back to sleep before midnight!
