A Lazy Day In San Diego!

Last night, after I finished blogging, I started watching SNL.  It was a new show with James Franco (who currently stars in PINEAPPLE EXPRESS).  I only got through the first 10 minutes and I was out like a light.

I woke up a few times during the night, and then woke up when the phone rang.  It was my sister-in-law, Susan, and I told her she woke me up.  I looked at the clock.  It was 9:30am!  I couldn’t believe I slept so late!  The problem was, I felt like I was drugged (and I wasn’t!) and I wanted to sleep more.  I told her I’d call her back and fell back to sleep for almost another hour.

When I woke up again, it was 10:20am.  I haven’t slept that long in a LONG time.  The bad thing was, I didn’t feel refreshed.  I still felt tired!  I didn’t get out of bed.  I called Eric and spoke to him.  Then, Susan.  Then I watched SNL from last night.  It was really funny.  James Franco is adorable!

I finally got up and took a shower, got dressed and went to KEIL’S (prounounced Kyle’s).  It was a fast food-shopping, because I only bought lots of fruit and vegetables and some DIET LEMON SNAPPLES, and a few other odds and ends.

It was the first time in about 6 weeks that they had the case of 12 DIET LEMON SNAPPLES.  They always have all the other flavors, but not the Diet Lemon!  I was so happy!  I put them in my cart but when I went up to the cashier, as he put them through to be rung up he heard broken glass.  Turns out one of the bottles had broken, although the others were fine.  They must have been put on the shelf that way, because it was all dried up inside!

Meanwhile, we tore it open and they gave me eight from that pack and a 4-pack for the same price as the 12 pack case.  We were transferring the good bottles and there was broken glass on some of them and I actually cut my thumb!  It was nothing serious, but I was so frustrated.  They NEVER have the Diet Lemon, and then they only had ONE case left and it had a broken bottle!

When I got home I washed all the bottles in the sink to make sure they were all clean of broken glass.  I have to make these last, because they said they’re having trouble getting SNAPPLES.  Do you think they’re going out of business?  What would I do?  I’d be like Elaine in that episode on SEINFELD where she went to every drug store in town trying to stock up on “the sponge.”  If anyone came over, I’d have to interview them, to see if they were “Snapple worthy.”

After food shopping I worked on the computer for a while.  I finally bought my tickets for NY in November to go to Jessica and Ken’s wedding.  It’s very exciting!  Eric can’t wait for me to get there, and I’m hoping by the time I arrive he has his own apartment, so I have a place to stay!  So many of my friends have dogs and cats, which means I can’t stay at their place.  I spoke to my friend, Marygrace, tonight and she offered her house to us – it’s animal free!  I thought that was fantastic and I’m sure we’ll take her up on it, if Eric is still at Susan’s (she has a dog).

I’m arriving in NY on Saturday morning, November 22nd and I’m leaving on Tuesday afternoon December 3rd.  I didn’t want to get involved with the crazy “after Thanksgiving” travel crowds, so I figured I’d stay an extra day or two.  The ticket was pretty reasonable, too.  Flying JET-BLUE out of San Diego non-stop to JFK – less than $400!

I would like to try to see as many people as possible on that Saturday night – the 22nd of November – the Saturday before Thanksgiving, so if you’re reading this – consider yourself invited!  I don’t know where yet, but I’m going to try to find a place to have a party, so I can see all our friends.  I know we’ll be away for Thanksgiving, and then we’ll be with family for the wedding, so if we want to try to see all our friends while I’m in NY, I figure I’d better get them all in one place at one time!  MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

I was on the phone for HOURS today – besides Eric, I spoke to Geri, Marygrace, and  Elaine and Brian.  So many good friends calling to see how Eric and I are doing.   It makes me so happy to know that there are wonderful friends out there who think of us.

I spoke to my niece shortly.  Melissa had her operation and everything went well, but she’ll still be in the hospital for a while – maybe a week.  She’s in a lot of pain and is feeling pretty bad, but she tells me “tomorrow will be better.”  Is she a trooper or WHAT?  I love that girl.  She is so strong, but so sweet and thoughtful.  It’s a wonderful combination.  I know she’ll be fine, but it kills me that she’s in so much pain right now.  I can’t wait to see her in November!

Tomorrow I’m supposed to go to Bob’s house after work, because the “window treatment lady” is coming and he’s afraid to make a decision without me!  I really think he knows what he wants, but if he wants me there to point him in the right direction, I’m happy to do it.  I brought him an ad from a local magazine for Smith & Noble window treatments and they come to your house for a free consultation.  It’s easier than going shopping, and they do all the measurements!

I’m also supposed to start working on another guy’s duplex apartment.  He’s been there a year and hasn’t done a thing, so he really needs a lot of help.  First thing – paint colors!  He knows what he wants, so that’s a step in the right direction.

If only I could make a living doing this.  Wouldn’t that be great?  It’s really fun and interesting, but I know it’s a very hard business to break into, so I guess I’ll just keep on temping.  I’m just enjoying the creativity of it all.  A career in interior decorating will have to wait a little longer!
