Happy Labor Day!

We slept until a little after 8:00am this morning and then relaxed and watched an episode of MONK that Eric had never seen, where John Tuturro plays his brother.  It’s hard to believe, but Ambrose Monk is even more neurotic than Adrian Monk!  It was a great episode and Eric and I really enjoyed it.

We had Cheerios for breakfast and then showered and dressed.  We did three loads of laundry and walked with the cart to KEIL’S to do a fast food shopping.  When we got back we put everything away and then I “steamed” 2 loads of the laundry, including about 5 pairs of Eric’s jeans, and then let the towels and linens dry in the dryer while we watched TV.

When the laundry was done we went to Pacific Beach to CAFÉ 976 for lunch.  I had a spinach burger with a salad on the side.  Eric had a chicken salad sandwich with a salad on the side.  It was a gorgeous afternoon and we ate outside.  Unfortunately, there were a lot of flies, which made it harder to enjoy our meal with all the hand-waving we had to do to keep them off our food.  You don’t see as many flies in San Diego, unless there’s food around.  In NY it seems there are flies everywhere – at least that’s how I remember it.

After lunch we went to COSTCO, but it was actually closed.  We were shocked!  I thought that place was open 7 days a week, holidays included.  I guess I was wrong!

Next, we went to the local theatre in the shopping center to see if there was a movie starting soon, but there wasn’t anything for a few hours, so we decided to check out the theatre in Hillcrest, which we had never been to before.  We found a spot right around the corner and walked there, but – unfortunately – we never heard of any of the movies playing there!  I guess it’s arty or independent films.  Since we didn’t know what they were about, we just kept walking.

We walked around Hillcrest, going in and out of stores.  We shopped at BABETTE SCHWARTZ, my favorite card store, and did some window shopping.  Read all about the real Babette Schwartz: http://babette.com/meet_babette_schwartz.

Next, we got back in the car and drove to Little Italy for gelato at our new favorite place – Papplecco.  I had a medium-size cup with ½ Nutella (my new obsession) and ½ Mocha.  Eric had ½ Stratiatella and ½ Nutella.

We sat outside and along came these two magnificent greyhounds.  A guy and girl were walking them.  She went in to order gelato and he stayed outside and we got to pet the dogs.  They were so sweet and friendly – such beautiful animals.  They were both rescued from a racecourse in Mexico!

After our gelato we drove home.  There was another episode of MONK on that Eric had never seen and – coincidentally – it also included John Tuturro returning as Monk’s brother.  It was a Halloween episode and it was really sweet.  The funny thing is, Tony Shalhoub (who plays MONK) really has a brother, who looks a lot like him.  He had a small part in one episode, so he’s obviously an actor.  You’d think he’d be able to get his real-life brother to play his brother on the show, but no such luck!

Anyway, I fell asleep and Eric came out to the living room to watch TV.  I woke up at 8:00pm and started answering emails and blogging.  Believe it or not, we have a lot of interest in the RV!  Everyone wants to give us a deposit.  They’re all anxious to buy it!  Meanwhile, we keep telling them all that we can’t take any deposits, and don’t even want to show it anymore, until we get the title cleared up.  There’s someone in Santa Barbara, and someone in Houston, who wants to come see it.  We only listed it on CRAIGSLIST in San Diego, but I guess people look all over!

The ad only runs for 7 days and I think we listed it last Monday or Tuesday, so it should be ending soon and we’re not going to run it again until the title is cleared.  Eric’s going to work on getting all that resolved and will then show the RV and we hope to sell it and have it GONE before he leaves for New York at the end of September.

It’s going to be a nice, short week – only working 4 days!  I love Mondays off!
