I'm Working Too Hard!

I’m kind of regretting that I committed to that Focus Group on Saturday.  The $175 sounded great, but I’m SO tired and I have to BE there at 8:30am!  That’s just not fair on a Saturday.  You can be sure I’ll be heading to Starbucks before I go, and I’m not talking about decaf!

This morning the first thing I did was go online and track the package I sent with Eric’s info, so he could register the car.  It was received by my sister-in-law at 10:00am, so all was well.

I had to drive to work today, because I had my appointment tonight, and I was ready early, so I decided to drive to the drive-thru Starbucks on Balboa and Clairemont Drive (about 2 miles away).  It’s SO convenient and they’re so nice and friendly there.  That’s not to say that they’re unfriendly at the other Starbucks (in the shopping center), but they’re just REALLY enthusiastic, because they’re new!

Anyway, it was great to have my iced non-fat mocha latte this morning, because I was REALLY working hard.  I’m sending out a mailing of 183 letters.  I had a template of the letters, but I had to personalize each one with the name and address of the person or people it was going to, the saluation, and add account numbers and account names.

This is something you’d usually do with a merge, but we had a lot of problems last time, so I did each one separately – 183!  Then, I cut and pasted the addresses into labels.  We needed four sets – one for the envelope, one for the green and white CERTIFIED form, one for the green RETURN RECEIPT postcard, and one to give to the mailroom, so they could use it for their records (instead of hand-writing each one as they usually do).  Then, I had to print all the letters, make a copy of each one for our files and then I started putting it all together.

Each letter had forms that had to be attached.  There are different forms for different letters, so I had to look at each letter to see which forms were needed and how many of each.  I stuffed the envelope, put the label on it, then put another label on the green postcard, and the last label on the green and white form.  Then, I had to take this thin strip off the green and white form, which has the tracking number, and put it on the green postcard.  Oh, I forgot – I had to print out 183 of the firm's return address on labels, because they go on the back of the green RETURN RECEIPT postcard, so it can be returned!

When I had the stuffed envelope, the green postcard and the green and white form all completed, I paperclipped them together and started on the next one.  I did this 111 times between 8:00am and noon – and I worked on other things, too!  I have over 70 left, but I know I’ll be able to finish tomorrow, since I did over 100 today!

When I went down to HR, I had a big project to work on there, too.  First, Elsa and I drove to a nearby shopping center and picked up Greek food for ourselves and a few others girls in the group.  I got their vegetarian platter, which had falafel, grilled pita, hummus, and rice.  It was really good and I needed it after the morning I had.

Then, I started working on setting up some interviews.  The problem is, I was exhausted, and I had had such a crazy morning, and I was working on TWO interviews at once.  One interview was in one conference room starting at 10:00am and running in half-hour periods until 11:30am.  The other was in a different conference room starting at 10:30am and running in half hour periods until noon.  The problem is, I set it all up one way, and then when I emailed the people to inform them of where and when, I got it ALL mixed up.  I was ready to kill myself, but Elsa and the other HR girl I was working with told me not to worry, I could fix it tomorrow, and that they do the same thing.  They’re so sweet.  I really thought I had it all together and was being SO efficient, and it turned out I made some silly mistakes.  I’m just not at my best.

Fortunately, tomorrow is my last day working the two shifts.  Starting on Monday, I’ll still be upstairs in the morning, but I will now be training the new temp.  That’s more stressful, but it will just be for a few days and then I’ll be in HR full time.  Yahoo!  Yippee! and Wheeee!

I left a few minutes before 5:00pm and went to my appointment.  It was, as always, very helpful.  When I got out I called Eric.  He said he was okay, but he was not very convincing.  I thought he’d be happy, because he got the car all registered, and everything’s set and he can now go pick up the car.  Unfortunately, he sounded very down – and that’s with him trying to sound up for me!

When I got home I had some vegetable soup (the last of my big pot!) and watched TOP DESIGN, which was on last night.

Tomorrow I have to try to get in touch with the woman at NY DMV, so I can find out what’s going on with the title.  I know they received it on Wednesday morning, but I just have to call to make sure everything’s okay and find out when they will be able to send it out.

There’s no real rush anymore, because the buyer can’t come down for a few weeks anyway.  He has a flight at the end of October, so the RV will be where it is until then.  I have been moving it up and down the block, so it’s not always in the same spot.

I can’t believe tomorrow’s Friday already.  This week REALLY flew by for me.  I am not making any plans, because I want to go to bed early, since Saturday really is another work day!   I bet you can all guess what I’m doing on Sunday – sleeping late and not doing much else!
