I woke up this morning and realized my neck was 90% better. Boy, I’m a fast healer! I don’t know if it was the 2 doses of 3 Advils I took during the day, or the cherry stone pillow I put in the microwave and rested on for hours. Anyway, I was SO grateful that I didn’t have that searing pain radiating from my neck down my back.
I was so busy this morning straightening up for Jimmy that I didn’t have time to go to STARBUCKS, but I did stop at the coffee cart and got a hot coffee before heading to my desk in HR. It was my first full, 8-hour, no training, honest-to-goodness day in HR! I really enjoyed it!
The best news was that my new, clean title for the RV was waiting for me on my desk when I arrived this morning. It actually got processed in ONE WEEK. I don’t ever want to hear anyone say anything negative about New York DMV ever again! Okay, I know there are a lot of negatives, and you can say them, but just remember that there ARE good people working there who want to be helpful!
I faxed the title to the titling company and she told me I have to send her the original. I couldn’t do it from work, because you have to give them a check at the time you process your UPS or FED EX request, and I didn’t have any checks with me, so I had to do it after work.
Then, I got down to HR business. There’s another temp working at the desk where the woman who is on sabbatical usually sits – which is right next to me. She’s very sweet and pleasant and we work together very well. Between the two of us, we are capable of doing most of what the woman on sabbatical does, so it’s good to have her around! The other woman is such a dynamo that it takes TWO of us to replace her!
There’s another temp sitting at Elsa’s desk. I think she’s an HR person, because she seems to be doing more than just admin stuff. Maybe she’s an HR consultant. I haven’t asked. Anyway, she’s handling some of Elsa’s responsibilities.
I got a lot done and it felt good to catch up for a change. I’ve been behind at both jobs for three months and it was really getting to me, but now I’m getting a chance to actually complete projects, and I get a real satisfaction from that.
I was so excited all afternoon, thinking of Jimmy coming to town. At 5:00pm, I left and ran a few errands before I came home. I went to RITE AID to get some liquid hand soap for the bathroom and I needed more greeting cards (I always need greeting cards!). Then, I went to UPS and mailed the title, so that the titling company will receive it on Tuesday. She’s sending me forms to fill out and give to the buyer when he arrives on the 25th. The wheels are really turning now and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
When I got home I did some final cleaning and straightening (it’s really never-ending, because I can always find something else to do). Then, I decided to take a nap. Unfortunately, I had both sides of the window open in the bedroom and the Little Drummer Boy was outside playing. Then, when he finally went in, it suddenly got very cool out, so first I couldn’t sleep because it was too noisy, and then I couldn’t sleep, because it was too cold!
I did relax and kind of half-drowsed for a few hours, but I woke up at 7:30pm, got dressed and then worked on the computer until Jimmy called at 9:00pm. I jumped in the car, drove the few miles to the airport (around 5 miles) and he was waiting for me when I arrived. He’s as tall, dark and handsome as ever! I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since we saw each other. Boy, time flies. He flew in last for my birthday in December. It seems like a few months ago, but it’s actually ten months!
I realized today that Jimmy and I have been friends for 17 years, because we met in 1992. It doesn't seem like 17 years, but then again it seems like I've known him forever.
We drove straight to Pacific Beach and went to Haiku for dinner. I can’t tell you how nice it is to go in there and get a warm greeting from every single person, including the sushi chefs behind the counter. Eric and I had taken Jimmy there when he was here in December, and he specifically requested that we return, because he enjoyed their food so much.
The place was packed and we took the last table available inside (there are lots of tables outside, but it was a little too cool for me). We started with Shumai and a Coma, which is fried jalapenos with cream cheese, and other great stuff. Then, we ordered a Spicy Crunchy Scallop Roll. It was all SO delicious and we enjoyed every bite. We really could have gone for one more roll, but we decided instead to drive to Little Italy and visit Papalecco for some gelato!
We got there right as they were closing. I got half and half mocha and nutella and Jimmy got half and half caramel and nutella. Yum! We oohed and ahhed over every creamy mouthful!
Then, we drove home. I gave him the 3-minute tour (he had already been here, but it does look a little different now). I introduced him to Conrad and he thought he was adorable (who wouldn’t think so – he’s the cutest bird in town!).
I told Jimmy I wanted him to sleep in our bed, because he is thinking of getting the tempurpedic style mattress, which we have, and I wanted him to try it out. I also wanted to try out the sleeper sofa in the living room, because I’ve never slept on it and I was going to order one for Eric’s new apartment in NY, but thought I’d better check it out, since I’ll be sleeping there for 2 weeks in November!
So, Jim washed up and then went into the bedroom to read a little before going to sleep. Then, I washed up and changed into my pjs, and Conrad and I settled in the living room. I sat and blogged while Conrad watched me inquisitively. I think he was intrigued by the sound of the keyboard and wondered what the hell I was doing. He watched me intently the whole time I was working.
Jimmy and I have great plans for tomorrow. We’ll rise early and go to South Park for breakfast at THE BIG KITCHEN. Then, we’ll walk around the neighborhood in South Park, because there are a lot of great shops that I think Jimmy will enjoy.
Then, we’re going back to Clairemont for manicures and pedicures at HAPPY NAILS. Jimmy loves the pampering of mani/pedis as much as me, so that’s something we can do together and chat while we are enjoying the luxury of having our hands and feet massaged and beautified!
After that, we’ll hit COSTCO, because I need to pick up a few things, and I want Jim to check out the tempurpedic style bed they have on sale there. He goes to COSTCO in San Fran, so if he likes the bed he can buy one there and save about $500!
We are going to HILLCREST for dinner at TASTE OF THAI and then – who knows! Maybe a movie or a show, maybe we’ll just hang out at the apartment and watch TV. We don’t know what we’ll do yet on Sunday, but Jimmy’s up for anything. He’s great company and he doesn’t really care what we do. He just wants to hang out and catch up, have fun and enjoy the San Diego sun!
