Today was a long day! We were both up before 7:00am. Jim slept in the bedroom last night, so he could check out the tempurpedic and I slept in the living room, so I could check out the sleeper sofa. Conrad stayed out there with me, on the chest/coffee table, so he could be close to me, and I could be close to him. We’re very attached to each other, you know. I also wanted to make sure he didn’t wake Jimmy in the middle of the night, if he “flipped out” as he sometimes does.
Anyway, when I turned off the light to go to sleep, I decided to sleep on the side closest to the wall, so I wouldn’t be that close to Conrad. Unfortunately, the bed is weighted on that side, and it tilted and I almost fell off! It seems that if you’re going to sleep on one side, it has to be the “seat side” rather than the back that folds down, because the legs are more stable on the other side. You can’t sleep in the middle because there’s a kind of bar that goes right down the middle, and is very uncomfortable. I guess if Eric and I were sleeping on it together he would have to sleep on the seat side and I would sleep on the other side, so it wouldn’t tilt.
My nieces slept on it for 2 nights when they came to San Diego last January. I have to ask them if they ever tilted it! Also, my cousin Ilene slept on there for 2 nights when she came down a few months ago. I have to ask her, too!
Other than that, I slept fine and thought it was very comfortable, but I still thought it might not be the best thing for Eric, so I went online and was actually able to find a nice futon that looked very much like the one we had in the basement of our house, and it was less than $200 at TARGET. I will ask Eric what he thinks about that, instead of what we now have.
When Jimmy emerged from the bedroom this morning, we quickly got showered, dressed and headed out the door to breakfast at THE BIG KITCHEN. It was just after 9:00am and there were still a few seats available. When you go later you can sometimes wait up to 45 minutes to get seated. Judy the Beauty was on duty, so Jimmy got to meet her!
Jimmy and Judy the Beauty (on Duty!)
I got the same thing I got last time – the grilled cheese with tuna on rye. It’s to die for! I only ate half (and my home fries) and took the other half with me, but I left it in the car for so long that I ended up throwing it away. What a sin!
Jimmy got a giant pancake (it hangs over the sides of the plate) with scrambled egg and sausage. He ate every bite (he's a growing boy!).

After breakfast we walked around South Park for about a half hour, down FERN STREET, where there are lots of great shops. That’s where the WHISTLE STOP BAR is, where I did the craft show last March at the SOUTH PARK WALKABOUT. The Fall Walkabout was last weekend – when it rained!
So, I only know one person who lives in South Park – Stephanie – one of the divas in the CRAFT MAFIA. Jimmy and I are crossing the street and who do we run into? Stephanie! It was SO funny! She told me that she was doing the Fall Walkabout last week and they decided to set up outside, and they had to close up and go home after an hour, because it rained! I felt so bad.

After we finished our tour of South Park, we got back in the car but we noticed a lot of signs for garage sales, so we drove around a bit. We went to a few, and at one I saw a beautiful etched mirror. Unfortunately, it had a big chip on the bottom left corner, but the rest was in really good shape and I knew I could make something fabulous out of it with my jewelry mosaics. I asked the guy how much he wanted and he said, “There’s a chip in the corner.” I said, “I know – how much?” And he said, “Two dollars.” “SOLD!” I replied and Jimmy picked it up and carried it to the car after handing the guy two dollars.

I don’t know why, but it had what looked like 50 year old masking tape on it. I tried to peel it off, but it was stuck – but good. I knew I needed Goo Gone, or vegetable oil (which can be used in a pinch), but I didn’t have either. I had extra virgin olive oil, but I wasn’t going to waste it on old masking tape! I sprayed it down with my Seventh Generation version of WINDEX and let it soak.
We left again to go to the Clairemont shopping center for our noon manicure/pedicure appointments. We first stopped at STARBUCKS for frappucinos. I got a mocha lite and Jimmy got a caramel – with extra caramel. It looked yummy!

We sat in the massage chairs and got our manicures/pedicures. Jimmy had one girl working on his feet and another working on his hands, but I had Tina, my regular manicurist, so she first did my feet and then my hands. We were done in an hour and Jimmy had arranged to meet with someone he knows through work who travels to San Fran occasionally but lives in San Diego. We met her outside the salon at 1:00pm. Her name is Marti and she lives in Clairemont!

We met her outside and we followed her to Pacific Beach to go to a Chinese buffet restaurant. They had a wonderful selection of food, but we were all really good and didn’t stuff ourselves. They even had sushi, so I got to try a little of that. We stayed and talked and talked and talked and by the time we left it was after 4:00pm! We exchanged numbers and I’m sure we’ll get together again, because I really enjoyed her company!
We then said our goodbyes and Jimmy and I drove to Hillcrest. I wanted to take him to BABETTE SCHWARTZ – my favorite card and novelty store. There’s so much fun stuff and we hung out there for about a half hour looking at everything and laughing a lot. Then, we walked around Hillcrest a little, but it was suddenly chilly and I didn’t have my jacket, so we went back to the car and drove back to Clairemont.
I had gotten a $5 off coupon for a new TARGET that just opened on Balboa Avenue in Clairemont, so we decided to go shopping! We spent about an hour in TARGET and I ended up getting some yoga clothes (I’ll try them on tomorrow to see if they fit), shampoo, and $1 reading glasses that are black and silver leopard! They’re SO cute! Jimmy got a new combination lock for his gym locker. We love TARGET!
We got back to the apartment around 6:00pm and I was exhausted. I asked Jimmy if he wanted to take a nap, but he said he’d stay outside in the living room and read while I took a nap. I called Eric quickly (for the third time today) and then went to sleep.
He woke me at 7:30pm. We hung out and talked for a while and then I showed him the premiere of KATH & KIM, a new sitcom with Molly Shannon and Selma Blair, which is a copy of an English show of the same name. We both agreed that it wasn’t that funny and don’t understand why they don’t just buy the rights to the original and show THAT instead!
After that we checked out my $2 mirror. Unfortunately, the glue on the tape hadn’t loosened at all and we decided that I definitely needed the Goo Gone or vegetable oil. We decided to walk up to RITE AID, because I thought they’d have it. They didn’t have the Goo Gone and the vegetable oil was a big bottle, which I definitely didn’t need.
We then walked to 7/Eleven. They didn’t have the Goo Gone either, but they did have a small bottle of vegetable oil and it was only $2, so I thought that was okay. Then, we decided to try KEIL’S, and of course they had Goo Gone, so we got that, too.
We went home and poured some Goo Gone on one piece of tape, and the vegetable oil on another piece of tape and let it soak while we went out to grab a bite to eat.
We decided to go to the STUDIO DINER. I had a big bowl of their chicken noodle soup (which is really good) and Jimmy had a half tuna sandwich and a salad. He loved the place, because it’s really got a fun atmosphere and the décor is very theatrical with movie props and film strips, etc.
When we got home we saw that the Goo Gone worked MUCH better than the vegetable oil. I used a razor to scrape it all off and now it looks MUCH better. I now have SO many projects to work on. I’m doing three pieces for one customer who found me on the internet: a jewelry mosaic on one hand mirror, a butterly decoupage on a second hand mirror and a yoga-themed decoupage on a third hand mirror (for her daughter).
Then, I want to do this new big mirror I just bought and see if Gili will be able to fit it in her shop. Finally, I am waiting to get the box from the girl in HR who is recently engaged. That should keep me busy and out of trouble for a while!
We had a lot of fun today and hit so many different neighborhoods. We were in South Park, Clairemont, Pacific Beach and Hillcrest. We ate, shopped, had spa treatments, met friends, and relaxed in the apartment.
Tomorrow I have a few ideas about where we can go and what we should do. We could go to the zoo, or the Hotel Del Coronado, or the beach at Pacific Beach. Jimmy’s up for anything, so we’ll see how hot it is (it was hot mid-day, but chilly in the morning and afternoon into night), and what we’re in the mood for tomorrow. Whatever we do, it will be an adventure. It always is with Jimmy!
