Dinner With David and Melissa!

SORRY THIS BLOG IS LATE.  I HAD SERVER PROBLEMS FOR 24 HOURS!!!!!

We had a very lazy day in Whitestone today.  Eric really wanted to get a ride in this morning, so of course when he woke up it was raining.  He groaned and moaned and then came back to sleep for a few hours.  We woke up around 10:00am and just stayed in bed, watching TV for a while.  Then Eric made us cheese omelets and toast with jam, which was all really delicious.

Then, we got back into bed and relaxed and watched the football game.  We were taking our niece Melissa and her husband, David, out for dinner at 5:00pm, and I needed to go to CIRCUIT CITY to buy the VERIZON WIRELESS USB modem, so I can have wireless internet with my new laptop.  I bought the USB modem there last July, for my old laptop, and have had great luck with it, so I decided to go for the same thing.  They’re shaped much differently now, and it’s white instead of black, but it costs the same (free with rebate + $60 a month).

After CIRCUIT CITY we stopped by Susan and Andrew’s for a while, because Susan left her umbrella in my car last Tuesday and I wanted to return it to her and see them for a few minutes before dinner.

This picture of Susan, Andrew and Chelsea was actually taken last Tuesday, when Susan and I went out to eat with Kris, but this was the first chance I had to upload it!

Doesn't it look like the hand in the picture is petting Chelsea's head?

Their son, Daniel, was in from Washington, D.C., where he currently lives.  He is a law student.  He’s such a handsome young man, and so sweet and funny.  I’ve only met him a few times, but each time I am so impressed with him, but it’s really no surprise as Susan and Andrew are such a lovely couple.  It just makes sense that they’d have a great son!

We left there a few minutes before 5:00pm and drove to SAZZIO’S ITALIAN KITCHEN on Hillside Avenue (just about a mile down from where my shop used to be).  Melissa and David were waiting for us when we got there.  It had rained on and off all day long and was coming down pretty hard when we arrived.

We had seen Melissa and David at the wedding, but they were unable to attend our soiree last Saturday, and we wanted to spend some quality time with them, so we decided to meet for dinner.

We started with a spinach and artichoke dip, baked in their brick oven and served with foccacia bread and tomato salsa.  They also gave you carrot sticks, instead of just bread, so although it was still fattening, it was a little less so!

Melissa and I both had soup and salad.  She had a spinach and mini meatball soup with a Ceasar salad and I had pea soup with a Zola salad, which is mixed greens tossed with gorgonzola cheese, walnuts, grilled shrimp and drizzled with vinaigrette dressing.  It was huge and I brought most of it home with me!

Eric had chicken ravioli in a smoked porcini mushroom sauce with a touch of cream, and David had chicken cutlet parmigiana.

We had a lot to catch up on and it was really great to see them both.  They’re a great couple and we’re so glad their lives are getting back to normal and that Melissa is finally feeling better.  She’s looking forward to getting back into kick boxing, which is a passion of hers.  She was unable to do it for six months, due to her illness, but she’s getting clearance from her doctor this week and hopes to start again next week!

We really enjoyed the food, but we were so stuffed we really didn’t have room for dessert.  We all shared a piece of cheesecake and had coffee and tea.  They were headed over to Susan’s for dessert, because it was Eric sister Ellen’s 57th birthday, but we couldn’t stay, because of the dog (Nibbles) and my allergies.

We stopped by to say hello and left after 10 minutes.  We got to see Ellen, Michele and Scott for a few minutes and some of the other Greenberg clan.  The Ft. Lauderdale crew is going back to Florida tomorrow or Tuesday, so we probably won’t see them again before they leave.

When we got home, we started watching TV and before 9:00pm Eric was fast asleep.  I was happy, because I know he works so hard and getting up at 4:30am is not easy.  This way, he’ll get a good night’s sleep and start the week off right!

I started working on the computer (I was still working on the old one but I installed the modem on the new one and plan to start using the new one tomorrow!) and answered emails, blogged and resized all the pictures I took at Thanksgiving.  They didn’t come out that great, but here are a few, so you can see the family!

At one point Lenae and Rich's friends came over to say hi, before going to their own Thanksgiving dinner.  Here's Lenae and Pat!

I also have one picture of Jessica and Ken’s chocolate bar table card and the soap favor.  Melissa gave me a disk of pictures from the wedding, but of course I couldn’t get it to work on the old or new laptop.  I'm going to ask Andrew to help me.  I was able to view all the wedding pictures as a slide show, but unable to download any of them, so I could resize them and use them on the blog.

BTW, I already ate the Dark Chocolate and Raspberry bar (all by myself) and I'm almost finished with the second (Dark Chocolate and Cranberries).  YUM!

Anyway, we really had a great, fun-filled weekend with lots of socializing with friends and family.  Things ar going to be a lot more relaxed for the next few days, because there are no more doctor’s appointments, affairs, or holidays.  I can just be with Eric and see friends in-between.  I’m really looking forward to it!
