Eric woke me up this morning at 10:40am. I guess it was time to get up! I thought I was going to another party tonight (at my hair salon – HAIRSPRAY), and I needed to go out and buy the supplies I needed to make my chocolate-covered strawberries.
I was exhausted and kind of dreading having to get dressed up again and go to another party. My feet were hurting and I know it’s because I hardly sat at ALL last night.
I was too tired to blog last night, so that’s the first thing I accomplished this morning. I am having problems with pictures on my new laptop. I am now able to download them easily, from my camera to the laptop, but I am having a hard time resizing them.
It was so easy on my old laptop. I had a software for editing photos that had a RESIZE option. Now, the PICASA that I have on this laptop doesn’t have a RESIZE option! I know there MUST be one, but I can’t find it!
That’s why there were so few pictures in yesterday’s blog and the one of me was SO big. I couldn’t resize it!
Anyway, John, my colorist (and stylist) called to say he wasn’t going to the party and he had had a big fight with the management of the salon. Seems he had invited too many clients to the party and they weren’t happy about it. A big fight ensued and he said he wasn’t going to the party. I feel so bad, because he was really excited about it and told me how much fun it would be. He told me he had invited about 8 clients, so I’m glad I wasn’t the only one. I would have felt horrible if inviting me caused this much trouble!
Once I knew I wasn’t going to the party, I decided I wasn’t going to go out at all. Since I’m not working, I can do laundry and run errands tomorrow. I need to go to the post office, and they’re not open on Sunday anyway, so I might as well wait and get it all done at once!
I tidied up the apartment, but didn’t do too much. I watched COCO CHANEL, starring Shirley Maclaine, which I had recorded about a month ago, but hadn’t had a chance to watch. I never knew much about Coco Chanel’s life and it was very interesting.
I had a bowl of my vegetable soup for lunch and some salmon and a salad for dinner. I’ve already lost 2 pounds since I got back, but that’s just because I’m back to normal eating – not eating out a lot like I was with Eric and our friends and family for 2 weeks.
I saw a story on the internet about a couple who ate for $1 a day for 30 days. They had a bowl of plain oatmeal for breakfast, a peanut butter & jelly sandwich for lunch (one tablespoon of peanut butter; one tablespoon of jelly). They didn’t mention what they had for dinner, but if you’re interested – there’s a blog: http://onedollardietproject.wordpress.com/
I was most interested when I heard they live in San Diego! They’re both high school teachers and said they started this purely as an experiment – to see if they could exist on $1 a day. They both lost a lot of weight and she said she was “very cranky.” I think I would be, too!
They also commented on the fact that what they could not afford were any fresh fruits or vegetables. That’s something that Eric and I have often discussed. When it’s so easy to feed a family of 4 at TACO BELL for less than $10, why would poor people go anywhere else? It’s so sad that eating healthy is so expensive.
I think that trying to eat on $1 day is going to an extreme, but I think it would be interesting to see how cheaply you can live without sacrificing your health or welfare. I know the first thing I’d have to cut out is my STARBUCKS, because they’re so expensive, but that’s really the only thing I splurge on!
Well, there’s nothing good on TV tonight (in my opinion), so I’m going to rent BABY MAMA with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. I love both of them and the commercials looked funny!
