I was awakened at 10:45am this morning by my cell phone. I assumed it was Eric, but it was my friend, Artie, to whom I have not spoken in over 6 months. It’s not that we had a falling out or anything, we just hadn’t spoken or emailed or texted or written or communicated in any way. It’s not that unusual. We’ve been friends for 30 years and there have been years when we didn’t speak to each other and we lived within a few miles of each other, so the fact that we didn’t speak and we live over 3,000 miles apart made it easier to understand somehow.
Anyway he called this morning and we spoke for an hour. We caught each other up on everything going on in our lives – the good, the bad, the ups and downs – all of it. It was so good to hear from Artie, and it made me feel really good. That should be everyone's New Year's Resolution -- to get in touch with someone you love who has temporarily fallen off the radar.
As soon as I hung up with him I called Eric. It was already 2:00pm in NY and he was probably wondering how late I was going to sleep! It was great to talk to him (as always) and we both admitted that we weren’t doing anything more than hanging around our apartments all day. I did some work on my typing project, organized a little (I had to take down three 2008 calendars and put out my new 2009 SHOE and PURSE calendars, which my friends, Geri & Larry, always send me. I LOVE those calendars. You change the page every day to reveal a fabulous shoe or purse. Of course I love the high heels the best, and the vintage purses – the older the better!
I had some vegetable soup for lunch and then more for dinner. I really need to do a food shopping!
I watched TV, including a two-hour DEAL OR NO DEAL New Year’s Day special. It was pretty disappointing. No big money won today! I watched two episodes of ACE OF CAKES. Have I ever talked about that show? It’s a reality show about a Jewish guy named Duff Goldman who has a bakery in Baltimore where they make amazing cakes in any shape you can imagine – a car, a motorcycle, a plane, a basket of yarn with knitting needles, or a huge magnum of wine. You request it – they’ll make it. My dream is to someday have a cake from CHARM CITY CAKES (that’s the name of the bakery – the name of the show is ACE OF CAKES). I don’t know what the occasion will be, or what shape the cake will take, but I’m determined to meet Duff and have one of his cakes!
Tomorrow my goal is to actually leave the apartment! I’ll go food shopping and, if it’s a nice enough day, take a walk to STARBUCKS. I’m hoping to hear from one of the temp agencies about work for next week, but I’m not too optimistic. It may take another week or two, but you never know! Temping – it sure keeps life exciting!
