A Hot Day in San Diego!

Before I tell you about my day, I must show you what I consider to be the best and worst at the Golden Globes last night.  I looked online at the best and worst and my favorite dress of the whole night was actually on one of the WORST lists, so it’s all according to taste, obviously.

Anyway, my favorite dress of the whole evening was worn by Miss Golden Globes herself – Rumer Willis.  The color was dramatic -- a deep purple -- and so much nicer than black, the fit was perfect, and the detailing was extraordinary.  It had that little bit of bling and sparkle at the waist, which of course you know I loved.

My worst was worn by someone I do not know.  All I know is the color was horrendous (a mustard yellow) and the shape was ridiculous.  If I told you that I whipped this thing up, you’d have no problem believing me – and I’m not a designer and I don’t sew!  Not only is the color bad, but it doesn’t fit well, isn’t flattering, and doesn’t make any sense.   There's actually a line goint from her crotch down the center of the gown, which looks like it needs a good ironing.  PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong!

There were many great gowns on the red carpet last night, but those are my very best and worst.  I won’t bore you with the rest!

So, on to my day.  I cannot believe how warm it was in San Diego today.  They say it’s the Santa Anna winds.  I know I’ve mentioned before that everything that happens in San Diego is blamed on the Santa Anna winds – allergies, warmth, cold, rain, wind, sun, fire, mudslide, etc.  It’s the catch-all for whatever happens here!

Anyway, I woke up and the sun was just beaming in the windows.  I opened the door and it felt remarkably warm.  I don’t want to rub it in, especially for those of you who are in New York or thereabouts and suffering through the cold and snow, but this IS my last winter here, so forgive me if I am REALLY enjoying it!

I met my friend Stacie for lunch.  We went to Soup Plantation, which is very popular with the firm I was working for, because it’s just 5 minutes away.  We had a delicious lunch of soup and salad.  Stacie is working on something creative and I’m helping her.  That’s all I can say right now, not only because I don’t want to jinx it, but because she doesn’t know about my blog, and I don’t think it’s fair to say.  I will give more details when it’s appropriate!

After lunch we drove back to the office and I got a coffee from the coffee cart for the first time since November.  It was as good as I remembered!  It’s not STARBUCKS, but it’s made fresh by the sweetest girl (who is getting married in May) and it’s still very yummy!

After I left Stacie I drove to La Jolla to do a little shopping.  I didn’t buy much – just some cute black and white folders in STAPLES.  It’s not that I need them, I just couldn’t resist!

After that I went to the bicycle shop near me, because I owed $1.31.  I know, why bother?  It’s just that they were very nice to me and I felt bad, because I didn’t have enough money with me when I went there yesterday on my bicycle, so I thought it was only right that I give them what I owed.
Then, I headed to COSTCO, just so I could fill up with gas.  It cost me exactly $20.02.  The price has gone up a little, but it’s still MUCH better than last year!

After that I headed home and spent the rest of the afternoon working on my project.  I varnished several sides of the lid and box and painted the ball feet black.  I was going to use spray paint, but they didn’t have any at MICHAEL’S and I had black acrylic paint in a tube, so I just painted them using a brush.  It took all of 10 minutes and they came out GREAT!

I have more varnishing to do tomorrow and I also have to varnish the feet.  Then, I am going to bring the box and feet to ACE HARDWARE, because a young man there told me he’d be happy to put the feet on for me, for a few bucks.  If Eric was here, of course he’d do it for me, but he’s not, so I’ve got to count on a handyman at ACE!

I spent another hour on the phone with my friend, Robin, who is coming to visit for a week in February.  We are both SO excited, we’re like silly little girls.  I keep telling her all the fabulous places I’m going to take her, and we keep talking about how great it’s going to be.  Robin and I can talk for 5 hours without stopping, so I told her we’re both going to be hoarse after all the talking we’ll be doing for a whole week!

I meant to go food shopping today, but I just never left the apartment again, so I really must go tomorrow.  I don’t have much in the house at all.  I will definitely do that, and try to get a lot more done on my decoupaged box.  I can’t wait to give it to Kristin.  She’s going to flip!
