I woke up at 9:30am and called Eric. After that I got up and started cleaning. I mean, I tore this place apart. I usually clean one room at a time. I’ll clean the whole kitchen – top to bottom, or take apart the bedroom, vacuum and dust, and put everything back. Or I’ll take on the bathroom, or vacuum the entire apartment. Today I did it all! I tore apart every room, cleaned, vacuumed, mopped, dusted, washed, scrubbed, and organized. This place is so clean, and I’m feeling great!
I was all ready for Rosemary. I jumped in the shower, got dressed and was just putting the finishing touches on my makeup when she called to cancel. She had a bad migraine. She had it this morning, but she took something and was hoping it would be gone by the time she had to pick me up. Unfortunately, she still wasn’t feeling well. She asked if we could possibly reschedule for tomorrow, if she was feeling better by then. I told her I was wide open, so we left it at that and hung up.
I decided since I was dressed and ready to go out that I should go out! I started two loads of laundry, drove through STARBUCKS, and then decided to drive to an Animal Rescue Thrift Shop I had been wanting to visit. It was a few miles down Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, which is right off Clairemont Drive. It was very nice, well-organized, clean, and neat, but there was nothing much there at all. At least nothing in which I was remotely interested.
I’m really not looking for anything, but if I saw something that I could use for my crafting, I might be tempted. Anyway, I was in and out of there in five minutes, and drove back to the apartment. I put some of my clothes in the dryer and brought the rest up to hang on the line.
Now, I was on a roll. What else could I organize? I took apart my entire linen closet, which is in the second bedroom. I refolded all the towels, bed linens and tablecloths and put them neatly on one shelf. I put my crafting materials on two other shelves. On a third I put miscellaneous items, like the iron. It looked fabulous!

What’s next? I decided to hang my lithograph of Marilyn Monroe, which was damaged for over a year and, since she had been repaired, had been leaning against a wall in the living room. I had three pictures over the couch, which I had hurriedly hung so I could get them off the floor. Now, I moved them all around and hung Marilyn centered over the couch.

Off to one side, on the same wall, is my “Vlan! Du Berni” vintage liquor advertising poster. On the wall next to the couch I put up a large framed picture of my Dad when he was 2 years old. It’s the cutest. Next to that are two DOORS posters of Eric’s (they’re his favorite group). Okay, so there’s no theme here. I admit it. I just wanted to get everything hung again, for the next few months, until they’re packed and shipped back to New York.

In the hallway I hung two Betty Boop items. One is a sericell of Betty standing at a white grand piano with Bimbo accompanying her. The other is a picture my friend Leslie Cabarga drew when I performed as Betty Boop in 1991 at the American Bookseller’s Association’s convention at the Jacob Javits Center.
The place looks so great. I mean most of the rooms look pretty much the same as they always do, because I always keep things pretty neat, but I did put away all my crafting stuff, so when I start my next project I’ll have to bring it all out again. My desk looks great, too. That tends to get very messy with papers and I’ll usually take the time to organize it when I’m looking for something amongst the mess.
Anyway, I know I have a lot more organizing to do in preparation for my move, but – in the meantime – I’m definitely ready for company! I’m hoping Rosemary will come tomorrow, and I’m going to invite the other girls over, too! Maybe I’ll have a Girls’ Night at Peppy’s!
When I finally finished all my cleaning and organizing I relaxed and watched TV. I gotta tell you I’m pretty exhausted. I haven’t worked this hard in a LONG time!
