Fun in Del Mar, La Jolla and Old Town!

What a difference a day makes!  Today we woke up to blue skies, with nary a cloud to be found!  It was absolutely gorgeous out and we were planning to take FULL advantage!  First of all, I called Eric.  He was doing okay in his new location.  He drove his car and parked in Chinatown and then rode his bicycle to the job site.  He said he was doing fine, which made me feel much better.  He was excited to know if we received his gift.  He told us that he had sent us an early Valentine’s Day gift, so that Robin and I could enjoy it all week.

At 10:00am, as I just got out of the shower, the bell rang and it was a delivery man with TWO bouquets of flowers.  One was a dozen long-stemmed red roses in a red glass vase for me, and the other was a gorgeous bouquet of pink and purple flowers in a purple frosted vase for Robin!  How sweet is that?  Robin couldn’t get over the fact that he did that, because he could have just sent me a bouquet on Saturday, Valentine’s Day, but he sent it early so that we could enjoy our bouquets together.  He wrote a cute note to each of us.  It really meant the world to me, that he was so considerate and thoughtful and Robin thinks he’s the best!

We left the house at 11:00am and drove to Del Mar to pick up Ailien, Nancy and Tifney at the office.  We went to a little sandwich place where you go up to a window and place your order, go sit at a table outside and then they call you when your meal is ready.  They have pizza, calzones and sandwiches, but we all got a sandwich.  Robin enjoyed meeting the girls, and they all enjoyed her, too.  We had a fun lunch and then we dropped them off back at work and drove to La Jolla.

La Jolla

We got a great spot on the street and went down and walked near the water (but not on the beach).  There were a lot of birds that I think were pelicans (but I’m not sure).  They were so cute and we really enjoyed watching them.

This was just a lifeguard box, but I photographed it because it was so unusual!

There were a few people swimming with wet suits, a few sunbathers, and a lot of people down on the beach and rocks investigating.  What they were looking at so intently, we had no idea.  There were people walking their dogs, and people out enjoying the gorgeous weather – as we were!

After we walked along the water for about an hour we walked back to Prospect Street and went in and out of all the stores.  We visited Gili Anna and she told us that she will soon be moving to a new location.  She wouldn’t give us any details, but told me that she will be sending out an email, so I guess I’ll know soon enough!

La Jolla

We went in and out of a lot of art galleries and saw SO many beautiful paintings, sculptures, and photography.  It was really fabulous.  We stopped at STARBUCKS (of course!) and enjoyed every minute of the day inside and out.  Robin really loved La Jolla.  It is a gorgeous neighborhood with beautiful scenery and gorgeous views.

We finally got back in the car and decided to drive to Old Town for Mexican food before heading back home.  We went to FRED'S, a great place I've been to several times before.

We each had a quesadilla – mine was shrimp; Robin’s was chicken.  After our early dinner we walked around, going in and out of Old Town shops and the Chuck Jones Art Gallery, which we both really enjoyed.  Then, we came home.  Robin still isn’t feeling great, so she decided to stay home and read while I went to my yoga class.

Anyone who has been to our house knows that we love WARNER BROTHERS cartoons, and that Bugs Bunny's old friend Gossamer is one of our favorite characters!

It was wonderful and serene, as usual.  After class I stopped at a gourmet market down the block and brought us home gelato (we’re really going straight to hell!).  I got a portion of dark chocolate and a portion of mocha almond and we each had some of both while we watched Friday night’s MONK, which was fabulous – as usual!

Then, I watched AMERICAN IDOL while Robin read her book.  Tomorrow we are going to the zoo!  This is what Robin has been looking forward to all week, but we had to wait to be sure the weather was going to be great.  It’s actually supposed to rain again by the weekend, but at least we’ll get to do everything she wanted to do before that happens.  Tomorrow night we’re having dinner with Rosemary on La Jolla Village Drive.  Should be another exciting and fun-filled day.  We’re having the best time!
