I woke up at 9:00am and cleaned and voted until noon. Unfortunately, Stacie did not make it into the Top 3. She was actually 4th, so it might have been REALLY close, but you know what they say about “close, but no cigar.” Anyway, Stacie had a blast during this whole adventure and I told her she brought a lot of excitement to MY life these past few weeks!
After noon I did three loads of laundry, washing three blankets, some linens, my bathrobe, and lots of towels, so everything would be perfectly fresh for Robin. Then, I ran and got a pedicure, and from there I got my color touched up. I was close to the airport, so from there I just drove to the “cell phone parking area,” where you can wait until the passenger arrives. I called CONTINENTAL and heard that Robin’s plane had landed, so I decided to drive up to the baggage claim and see if I could see her.
Suddenly my phone rang and when I told her what color my car was she saw ME and was out 5 seconds later. Best airport pick-up EVER! It was SO great to see Robin. It’s been about 2 years since we saw each other, but she looks exactly the same. The only change is that her hair is a little shorter than I remembered. Mine is a LOT shorter than she remembered!
From there we went to Pacific Beach to CAFÉ 976, because Robin wasn’t that hungry (she said they gave her SO much food and snacks on the plane) and was in the mood for a salad. I told her they have great food and it’s a fun place. I had a veggie sandwich with all kinds of great stuff on toasted rye. Robin had a veggie chicken wrap. Both came with a side salad.
We talked and laughed all through dinner. Robin and I have always had the kind of relationship where we never run out of things to say. There’s either a story to fill each other in on, or remembering something that happened years ago. We have 30 years of history to remember, and it’s always fun to talk about old times.
After dinner we came back to the apartment and I gave Robin the 3-minute tour. She loved the apartment, which made me very happy of course after all the cleaning and organizing I did preparing for her arrival!
Robin showed me the website for the place where she works -- Fairlawn Community Center, which is the George Frey Center for Arts and Recreation. I took the virtual tour and saw all the facilities. Robin is the Corporate and Cultural Planner there. The place was built 3 or 4 years ago and is really magnificent. There is an arcade room, lounge, gymnasium, art studio, workout room with lockers and showers, as well as a 170 state-of-the-art theatre, a meeting room, computer room, and rooms for events. Robin has been working there for 2 years.
Robin was still on East Coast time, so she got tired very quickly, so I started blogging while she relaxed in bed. Tomorrow we get massages, which will start our week together off nicely, don’t you think?
