I got up at 8:00am, left the house a little before 9:00am, stopped at STARBUCKS and then headed north to the GRAND DEL MAR for the last time to pick Artie up at 9:30am and take him to the airport.
I dropped him off a few minutes before 10:00am and went to get gas at COSTCO. My gas light had come on while I was driving home, and I figured now was as good a time as any!
After that, I came back to the apartment and didn’t do much of anything all afternoon except relax and watch TV. I watched one of my new favorite shows – LIE TO ME, which was on last night. It’s REALLY good and I HIGHLY recommend it – if you’re looking for an interesting new drama!
I left the apartment again after 4:30pm and headed to La Jolla for my regular Thursday appointment. I got there a few minutes early (as usual) and sat down. Next to my chair was a bunch of HIGHLIGHT magazines, which I see every week. I’m sure most or all of you remember HIGHLIGHT magazine. I used to LOVE HIGHLIGHT magazine when I was a kid. The puzzle where you had to find the objects hidden in a tree, or a building, the short stories, the jokes, and my absolute favorite was GOOFUS AND GALLANT. Do you remember them?
If not, let me explain. It was drawn like a comic strip, but it was always a lesson in manners. Goofus would always do the wrong thing and his brother Gallant was always polite and well-mannered. I looked through an issue today and I didn’t them, but I read online that they do still have them in the magazine, which – by the way – was first published in 1948!

One example of GOOFUS AND GALLANT would be that they would be on line for ice cream or something at a party. It would say, “Goofus pushed to the front of the line, but Gallant stood at the end and let a young lady go ahead of him.” The picture would show Goofus, with a mean face and his eyebrows drawn up in an expression of evil gluttony. Gallant, on the other hand, would have a beatific smile on his face. I always loved Goofus and Gallant! Anyway, it brought back a LOT of memories!
After my session I came right home and made a big salad. Before I ate, I started blogging, because I hadn’t posted yesterday’s blog yet. I had lots of pictures of the party, Artie’s room, etc., so I did that, then I ate while I watched AMERICAN IDOL and then I watched HELL’S KITCHEN and then UGLY BETTY! What a great night of TV!
Tomorrow I’m getting my color touched up at 10:45am and then heading to Temecula to a winery for a wine tasting with my cousin Audrey, who is visiting from Las Vegas, and her friend, Bonnie, who also lives in San Diego. Since I don’t drink wine, I offered to be the designated driver. Audrey and I went alone last time she was here and we had a lot of fun, so it should be a fun afternoon!
